Notes when doing Literature test for 10th grade entrance exam according to 2018 General Education Program
According to the regulations on secondary and high school admissions of the Ministry of Education and Training, the 10th grade entrance exam will include Math, Literature and a third subject chosen by the locality, but must be changed every 3 years and announced before March 31.
This year, according to this new regulation, most provinces organizing 10th grade entrance exams choose 3 subjects: Math, Literature, and English.
2025 is the first year that the high school graduation exam is organized according to the 2018 National High School Program. For the Literature subject, this is the first time that the language materials in the entire exam are compiled outside of textbooks.

Below are some notes for candidates to review well and achieve high results when taking the 10th grade entrance exam in Literature:
To do well in the Literature exam in the high school graduation exam, students need to review closely the structure and exam matrix announced by the Ministry of Education and Training .
The test consists of two parts: Reading Comprehension (4 points) and Writing (6 points). The Reading Comprehension section often uses materials outside of textbooks, including 5 small questions, requiring students to have a solid understanding of genre, rhetorical devices, language, expression methods, etc. The answers must be concise, clear, and go straight to the point.
The Writing section consists of two questions: a paragraph (2 points) and an essay (4 points). For the paragraph, students need to correctly identify the requirements for form, about 200 words in length, and the proposed content. If it is a literary argumentative paragraph, it is necessary to clarify the ideological and artistic content of the work; if it is a social argumentative paragraph, it is necessary to stick to the problem, find ideas, and develop them reasonably. For an essay of about 600 words, students need to ensure a complete structure and focus on the content, art (for literary argumentative essays) or arguments, evidence, and lessons learned (for social argumentative essays).
An important tip is to read the question carefully before reading the text, which will help you identify the key information you need to find. In addition, underlining keywords in the question helps you avoid rambling and getting lost in the question. Students are also encouraged to review the second sample question published by the Ministry of Education and Training on October 18, 2025, because this question has a very clear orientation for the official exam.
Notably, all the materials in this year's exam are texts outside of textbooks, meaning that students have never studied or listened to lectures in class. Therefore, maintaining a stable mentality, reading the questions carefully and skillfully applying the test-taking methods for each type of question are key factors in handling all situations well. Finally, students should allocate time reasonably and spend a few minutes to re-read and correct errors before submitting their papers to avoid unfortunate mistakes.
