President Frank-Walter Steinmeier was born on January 5, 1956 in Detmold, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. He holds a doctorate in law and political science. Since 1991, he has worked at the Lower Saxony State Office. He has held the following positions: Head of Department, Lower Saxony State Office (1994-1996), State Secretary and Head of the Lower Saxony State Office (1996-1998). From 1998 to 1999, he was State Secretary to the Chancellor, Government Special Envoy for Intelligence.

From 1999 to 2005, he served as Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister. He was appointed to the following positions: Minister of Foreign Affairs (November 2005 to November 2007); Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs (November 2007 to October 2009); Chairman of the Parliamentary Group of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) (2009-2013); Minister of Foreign Affairs (2013-2017). From March 2017, he assumed the position of President of Germany (term 1). From March 2022, he assumed the position of President of Germany (term 2, until 2027).

Mr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier has visited Vietnam twice (March 2008 as Foreign Minister and October 2016 as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister). President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has made many contributions to Vietnam-Germany relations. He is very interested in the development and integration of the Vietnamese community in Germany.
