On May 21, French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in Mongolia, marking the first visit by a French President to this country.

The Elysee Palace said President Macron will be in the capital Ulaanbaatar after attending the G7 Summit in Hiroshima, Japan, and will meet with his counterpart Khurelsukh Ukhnaa later that evening. According to the plan, the French President will visit the Genghis Khan Museum, which is expected to lend part of its collection to the Nantes Historical Museum in western France for an exhibition in October.

President Macron will depart for Paris later in the day.

According to a source at the Elysee Palace, the visit comes as France seeks to diversify its partnerships to strengthen its position and increase its competitiveness with major powers, as well as loosen its previous ties with some countries. The source said that at the bilateral level, France has considered “very important possibilities for cooperation” with Mongolia, especially in energy, as Paris seeks to transition to a green economy .

In recent times, Mongolia has been attracting more attention from Western countries in terms of geostrategic aspects.
