After their 5-0 win over Inter Milan to win the Champions League for the first time, PSG were invited by French President Emmanuel Macron to a celebratory party at the Elysee Palace. PSG fans also celebrated across France.
But violence erupted in many places, leaving two people dead and police arresting nearly 600 people across France overnight. Mr Macron strongly condemned these acts of violence.
"The violent clashes that took place were unacceptable and came at a high cost: two people were killed, around 30 police officers and several firefighters were injured. I also send my condolences to the police officer in Coutances, who is currently in a coma," he said.
PSG also criticized the extremist fans: "These isolated actions are contrary to the values of the club and do not represent the majority of our fans, whose exemplary behavior throughout the season deserves praise."
According to statistics, about 11.5 million people across France watched this match.
