According to RT, this statement was made by President Trump on July 25 when asked by reporters about a potential meeting between President Putin and President Zelensky.
"It's going to happen, it should have happened three months ago. But it's going to happen," the White House boss said, without specifying a time frame.

President Trump has been trying to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict since taking office for a second term in January 2025. Earlier this month, he announced that he would impose secondary tariffs of up to 100% on Russia's trading partners unless Russia and Ukraine reached an agreement within 50 days, which would be in early September.
Moscow has said it is ready to resolve the issue diplomatically, but must address the roots of the conflict and security concerns, stressing Ukraine's neutrality, demilitarization and recognition of "territorial realities on the ground".
President Zelensky has repeatedly called for a face-to-face meeting with President Putin. Ukrainian negotiators also raised the idea during bilateral talks this week in Istanbul, Turkey, saying such a summit was essential to ending the fighting.

The Kremlin has not ruled out a meeting but insists the groundwork must be laid first. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the two leaders should meet only after significant progress has been made in negotiations. "There is no going back," he stressed.
Last month, President Putin said he was ready to meet Mr Zelensky if the meeting took place at the final stage of negotiations.
