Information on ward mergers was discussed by Mr. Tran Luu Quang, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee with leaders of 168 wards, communes, and Con Dao special zone at the conference summarizing the implementation of Resolution 18 of 2017 of the Party Central Committee, held on the morning of October 22.

The conference took place nearly 4 months after Ho Chi Minh City merged with Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau and operated its apparatus under a 2-level local government model. Since July 1, when the district level was abolished and the province was merged, Ho Chi Minh City has 168 commune-level administrative units, including 113 wards, 54 communes and 1 special zone.

Recently, social networks have spread information that Ho Chi Minh City still has 48 wards and 4 communes that do not meet the area requirements according to regulations after merging wards and communes.

Mr. Tran Luu Quang said that the leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee had previously considered and examined this issue very carefully. Because the old Ho Chi Minh City and the old Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau had the characteristics of being cramped and densely populated, the area criteria in some specific areas were not met.

However, Ho Chi Minh City has considered many factors when developing the plan and the Central Government has agreed. "There will be no rearrangement of wards and communes at present and in the next few years. Everyone can rest assured, do not worry about anything," Secretary Tran Luu Quang emphasized.
