A crocodile weighing over 50kg crawled into a residential area in the coastal city of Quy Nhon.

On the evening of October 22, a leader of the Economic - Infrastructure and Urban Department of Quy Nhon Nam Ward (Gia Lai Province) said that the unit had just coordinated with the Forest Protection Department of Tuy Phuoc - Quy Nhon area to receive a crocodile captured by local people.

Earlier that afternoon, residents of Quarter 23, Quy Nhon Nam Ward (near the foot of Vung Chua Mountain) discovered a crocodile crawling into the residential area. The crocodile weighed more than 50kg and was nearly 2m long. Residents caught it and reported it to the local authorities.

Crocodiles were caught by people to be handed over to the authorities.

The authorities quickly coordinated to inspect, make records, and carry out reception and initial care procedures before handing over to the conservation unit.

According to initial identification, this crocodile belongs to group IB, an endangered, rare species that is prioritized for protection.

A representative of Quy Nhon Nam ward said that it is likely that the crocodile came down from the Vung Chua mountain area. This is the first time the locality has recorded a crocodile appearing in a residential area, so further verification is needed.
