On November 19, the Election Committee of the 16th National Assembly and the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council for the 2026-2031 term held its first meeting to deploy the election work.

According to Resolution No. 199/2025/QH15, the National Assembly resolved to shorten the term of the 15th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2021-2026 term.

The election day for the 16th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels is set for March 15, 2026 (Sunday).

In Ho Chi Minh City, election preparations are being seriously implemented.

In the first meeting of the Ho Chi Minh City Election Committee, the decision to establish the Election Committee was announced, the working regulations were considered and approved, the tasks of members were assigned, and the establishment and personnel of sub-committees serving the election were determined.

The Ho Chi Minh City Election Committee also reviewed and approved the election organization plan, discussed and provided guidance on the structure, composition, and expected allocation of the number of people nominated to run for the National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels...

Mr. Vo Van Minh - Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, Chairman of the Election Committee of the 16th National Assembly and the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council for the 2026 - 2031 term - said that the Ho Chi Minh City Election Committee will continue to hold the next meetings and organize conferences to deploy online elections to communes and wards.

Up to now, 168/168 communes, wards and special zones in Ho Chi Minh City have established steering committees and commune-level election committees, ensuring compliance with legal procedures and regulations, and instructions from the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee and Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.

Ho Chi Minh City Election Committee has 31 members

Previously, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc signed a decision on November 12 on the establishment of the Election Committee for the 16th National Assembly and Ho Chi Minh City People's Council for the 2026-2031 term.

According to the decision, the Ho Chi Minh City Election Committee has a total of 31 members; the members are representatives of leaders of departments, branches and sectors of Ho Chi Minh City.

The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Election Committee is Mr. Vo Van Minh - Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council. The Vice Chairmen of the Ho Chi Minh City Election Committee include: Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Loc, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City; Ms. Van Thi Bach Tuyet, Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.

The Vice Chairmen of the Election Committee also include: Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee; Mr. Tran Van Tuan; Mr. Huynh Thanh Nhan and Ms. Nguyen Truong Nhat Phuong (Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council).
