Thanks to the high quality of food, in Ho Chi Minh City, there are 55 restaurants and eateries listed by Michelin. Michelin appraisers recognize these restaurants as having dishes worth experiencing, delicious dishes at affordable prices.
According to the report of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism on the results of the implementation of the plan to improve the quality of the culinary service system, in 2023, the city will have the first 55 restaurants and eateries included in the Michelin list.
Among them, one restaurant has achieved the first Michelin star; 38 restaurants and eateries in Ho Chi Minh City have been on the Michelin Selected list (restaurants recommended by Michelin); 16 Bib Gourmand restaurants (restaurants with delicious food at affordable prices). According to the Department of Tourism , this is a bright spot for the Vietnamese culinary service industry in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular.
The Department of Tourism also acknowledged that our country does not have criteria for evaluating culinary services for restaurants and eateries. Existing regulations do not classify or rank restaurants and eateries to create motivation to improve the quality of culinary services and do not fully evaluate the quality of restaurant service, restaurant design style, chef skills, quality and appearance of dishes... according to international standards.
Therefore, the Department of Tourism has researched and consulted criteria for evaluating culinary services around the world , experts' opinions, and tourists to develop a set of criteria for evaluating the quality of culinary services of restaurants and food establishments applied in Ho Chi Minh City.
Regarding the achievements, in 2023, the culinary industry of Ho Chi Minh City has a policy to improve the quality of culinary services. At the same time, the Department of Tourism also submitted to the City People's Committee the promulgation of a set of criteria for evaluating the quality of restaurant and food service establishments.
The guidebook introducing the list of restaurants and typical dishes in the city is also of interest and support to restaurants, food establishments, tourism businesses, accommodation establishments, and tourists.
Although it has achieved certain successes, the agency also assessed that the progress of implementing some contents in the plan to improve the quality of the culinary service system is still slow. Communication for the programs is not really effective and widespread as expected.
