The above information was announced by Mr. Mai Thanh Tung, Deputy Head of the Department of Housing Development and Real Estate Market (Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction) at a press conference on socio -economic issues and issues of public concern organized by the City Party Committee's Propaganda Department in coordination with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Information and Communications on the afternoon of January 18.
According to Mr. Mai Thanh Tung, the demand for social housing for low-income people in the city is very large. In recent times, the city has made great efforts to develop social housing to meet the needs of low-income people.
Since the beginning of the term (2021-2026), Ho Chi Minh City has completed and put into use 2 social housing projects (transferred from the 2016-2020 period) with a scale of 623 apartments. Currently, there are 6 social housing projects being implemented in the area with a land area of 9.36 hectares, a construction floor area of 298,714 square meters, and a scale of 3,956 apartments (including 4 projects transferred from the 2016-2020 period, 2 expected to start construction in 2022).
Regarding workers' accommodation, the city is currently implementing a project with a land area of 2 hectares, a construction floor area of 93,932 square meters, and a scale of 1,040 rooms.

Carrying out the assigned tasks in the Government 's project on "Investing in the construction of at least 1 million social housing apartments for low-income people and industrial park workers in the period of 2021-2030", the Department of Construction has compiled 88 land plots and projects with the goal of investing in the construction of social housing and worker accommodation in the city.
Accordingly, focus on completing legal procedures for 37 social housing projects and worker accommodation projects (of which 7 projects are under construction and 30 projects have completed legal procedures), with a scale of about 35,000 units.
In addition, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction also urged investors of commercial housing projects and urban areas to invest in building social housing on the 20% land fund of these projects according to the approved schedule. In case the investor fails to do so, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee will consider reclaiming the 20% land fund to select and assign to other investors.
