On October 29 and 30, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism organized a delegation to survey health care models and services and resort tourism in Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau (Ho Chi Minh City) to build a set of high-quality medical tourism products, introducing them to the market at the end of the year, targeting groups of tourists who want to combine medical examination and treatment, energy recovery and local cultural experiences.
In the context of increasing demand for tourism combined with healthcare, especially in the middle and high-end tourist segment, Ho Chi Minh City is orienting to strongly develop medical tourism products as an important pillar in the strategy of diversifying destinations.
To realize this goal, the survey team will visit medical units and high-end healthcare service facilities to assess the potential, thereby forming comprehensive medical tourism product packages, preparing to widely introduce in late 2025 and 2026.

At the Ho Chi Minh City Traditional Medicine Hospital - a leading unit in traditional medicine, owning a system of producing drugs and medicinal herbs of international standards, Dr. Do Tan Khoa, Director of the Hospital, said that Vietnamese traditional medicine has a special advantage when based on indigenous medicinal sources, treatment techniques suitable for Vietnamese people's constitution and reasonable treatment costs. Methods such as acupuncture, acupressure, hydrotherapy, massage - health care not only treat diseases but also restore the spirit, very suitable for development into health care tourism products.

"For medical tourism to develop sustainably, there needs to be a close connection between hospitals and tourism businesses. In this case, hospitals play a role in ensuring expertise, while tourism businesses organize operations and design experiences. If this model is done well, we can form 'healing - relaxing - regenerating' tourism packages with Vietnamese identity, suitable for domestic, international and overseas Vietnamese tourists. In addition, units should also build a "soft hospital" model - that is, expanding service space through links with resorts and accommodation facilities, helping to overcome the overload of the health system and creating conditions for tourists to be treated in a more comfortable and natural environment," said Dr. Do Tan Khoa.

As a pioneer hospital applying Singaporean medical standards in Vietnam, Hanh Phuc International General Hospital (Binh Duong area) is known for its strengths in assisted reproductive treatment, obstetrics and pediatrics and family health care. Here, the delegation recognized the model of medical examination and treatment combined with international standard resort, along with a system of modern facilities and a team of experienced professionals.

Dr. Nguyen Tuan, General Director of Hanh Phuc International General Hospital, said that the unit always wants to accompany the tourism industry to make Hanh Phuc a reliable destination for international tourists and overseas Vietnamese, aiming for a closed "examination - care - resort" model and improving the quality of services for people and tourists coming for examination and treatment.

In the Ba Ria - Vung Tau area, Minera Hot Springs Binh Chau is a hot mineral resort combining relaxation in the middle of a natural forest, where visitors can experience physical and mental recovery therapies such as hot mineral baths, onsen soaks, mud baths, saunas and meditation - health care activities.
This is one of the highly appreciated health tourism models in the Southeast region, suitable for the trend of tourists looking for a quiet space to regenerate energy and take care of their bodies naturally.

In addition, the delegation also surveyed a number of high-quality medical units and medical examination and treatment facilities such as Vinmec Central Park International General Hospital to be able to connect a diverse range of services from in-depth health screening, specialized treatment, cosmetic surgery, minimally invasive therapy to post-treatment recovery care.

Ms. Vo Ngoc Diep, Head of the Department of Tourism Accommodation Management, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, said that Vietnam currently welcomes about 300,000 international visitors for outpatient examination and 57,000 inpatient treatments each year, of which Ho Chi Minh City accounts for about 40%.
"The city has great advantages in terms of medical skills, modern medical technology and reasonable costs, which is an important foundation for building a medical tourism destination brand in the region. Currently, the development of medical tourism products not only focuses on medical services but also combines with resort experiences, cuisine, and local cultural and historical tours, creating a balanced journey between health care and tourism discovery for residents and visitors. In addition, linking medical tourism products with neighboring localities helps create a rich and diverse product network that is competitive with destinations in the Southern region," said Ms. Vo Ngoc Diep.
According to Ms. Vo Ngoc Diep, although medical products have a lot of development potential, the connection between hospitals and travel businesses is still fragmented, services are not synchronized in price and care process, making tourists not "interested" in medical package tours. To overcome the above situation, Ho Chi Minh City is focusing on building and developing the Ho Chi Minh City Medical Tourism Development Project for the period 2025 - 2030, with a vision to 2045 in the direction of standardizing facilities participating in the program, building a transparent benefit-sharing mechanism, and promoting to form a professional ecosystem.

The representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism also said that in the coming time, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism will continue to coordinate with hospitals, resorts and travel businesses in Ho Chi Minh City to build comprehensive medical tourism packages to widely introduce to domestic and international visitors, especially targeting overseas Vietnamese returning home during the Lunar New Year and groups of tourists who are in need of combined tourism and health care at the end of the year.
