Sa Dec City receives National Intangible Cultural Heritage of Traditional Crafts and Folk Knowledge "Sa Dec Rice Flour Making Craft"

In the joyful atmosphere to celebrate the 49th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2024), on the evening of April 26, at Sa Dec Park, the People's Committee of Sa Dec City coordinated with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dong Thap to solemnly organize the Ceremony to receive the National Intangible Cultural Heritage of Traditional Crafts and Folk Knowledge "Sa Dec Rice Flour Making" in Tan Phu Dong Commune and Ward 2, Sa Dec City and opened the 3rd Sa Dec City Peace Festival in 2024.

Attending the ceremony were Vietnamese Heroic Mother Dam Thi Be Ba; comrades: Pham Thien Nghia - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Le Thi Kim Loan - Member of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee, Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department; former provincial leaders; leaders of Sa Dec City and a large number of local people.

The rice flour making profession in Sa Dec is over 100 years old. Having gone through many ups and downs, but with many favorable natural factors, this profession has maintained its development to this day. Currently, there are over 160 households working in the profession, creating jobs for over 1,000 local workers, with an average output of over 30,000 tons of flour/year. Every year, the products after flour contribute more than 400 billion VND to Sa Dec City. Villagers have also gradually mechanized the production process to reduce labor, lower product costs, and improve the output and quality reputation of the Sa Dec flour brand.

In order to show gratitude to our ancestors who have worked hard to build and contribute to the prosperity of our homeland, improve the lives of many families and the success of many generations, from 2022 to present, the People's Committee of Sa Dec City has organized a ceremony to honor our ancestors and honor the Sa Dec flour making profession. On February 21, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism decided to include the Sa Dec rice flour making profession in Tan Phu Dong commune and Ward 2, Sa Dec City, Dong Thap province in the List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage of Traditional Crafts and Folk Knowledge.

Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Pham Thien Nghia said that the rice flour making profession in Tan Phu Dong commune and Ward 2, Sa Dec city being recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage not only brings joy and pride to Sa Dec flour makers but also has the meaning of spreading and enhancing the value of the traditional rice flour craft village, contributing significantly to tourism development and enhancing the local image.

Mr. Pham Thien Nghia suggested that sectors, levels and localities continue to promote and raise awareness and responsibility of the community in preserving and promoting the unique values ​​of National Intangible Cultural Heritage and indigenous culture, contributing to preserving and developing national cultural heritage so that these values ​​are deeply ingrained in the lives of everyone and every household.

Authorized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Pham Thien Nghia awarded the National Intangible Cultural Heritage Certificate for the traditional craft and folk knowledge of "Sa Dec Rice Flour Making" in Tan Phu Dong Commune and Ward 2, Sa Dec City. At the same time, the Provincial People's Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to 4 collectives, 7 households and 1 individual who have made many positive contributions to the preservation and development of the craft village.

On this occasion, the People's Committee of Sa Dec City opened the 3rd Peace Festival in 2024, with a dramatization program with the theme "Proud of my hometown Sa Dec". The Peace Festival takes place from April 26 to May 1 with many attractive activities and events such as: "Contest of making 49 traditional dishes and cakes" from Sa Dec flour; "Mass art competition"; Youth dance group festival; Golden Bell Gameshow to learn about the history of the formation of "Sa Dec rice flour making profession"; Photo exhibition "Sa Dec rice flour making profession past and present"; Volleyball tournament for female workers, civil servants - city laborers, competing for the 3rd Peace Cup; Mini football tournament for male workers, civil servants - city laborers...

In addition, during the Festival, tourist attractions in Sa Dec City also have many activities to respond and decorate gardens to serve tourists visiting during this holiday.
