HCMC: Number of Covid-19 infections tends to decrease rapidly

On the afternoon of June 17, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health announced that through the infectious disease surveillance system, in week 23, the entire city recorded 69 cases of Covid-19, and in week 24 (from June 9 to 15), there were 32 cases (14 inpatients and 18 outpatients), a decrease of 66% compared to the number of cases in the week that reached the highest level in week 22 with 94 cases.

This is considered a positive signal, showing that Ho Chi Minh City is gradually and effectively controlling the new wave of the epidemic after the increasing period from mid-April to the end of May. Although the number of Covid-19 cases is decreasing, the health sector is still not subjective and negligent in epidemic prevention because the risk of serious complications and death can always occur, especially in people in high-risk groups.

Recently, the city has recorded deaths related to Covid-19 in two patients with many chronic underlying diseases. The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health recommends that people not panic but also not be subjective about the epidemic. Compliance with the Ministry of Health 's recommendations on disease prevention and control still plays a key role in protecting public health, especially in the context that the NB.1.8.1 variant is still circulating and there is not much scientific data on its virulence and spread rate.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health continues to direct medical units to strengthen monitoring, early detection of Covid-19 cases and new variants, and be prepared to respond to possible situations, ensuring the admission, care and treatment of patients. The Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control (HCDC) is closely coordinating with hospitals and the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit (OUCRU) to continue conducting gene sequencing of new cases to assess the spread trend of the NB.1.8.1 variant circulating in Ho Chi Minh City as well as the possibility of other variants appearing in the near future.

To protect yourself, your family and the community, the health sector recommends:

Wear a mask in public places, on public transport, and at medical facilities.

Wash your hands frequently with clean water, soap or hand sanitizer.

Avoid crowded places if not necessary.

Increase exercise, physical training, and proper nutrition.

Monitor your health and go to a medical facility immediately if you have a fever, cough, or difficulty breathing.
