According to the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, this suspension is to complete a new, more suitable replacement project.
The Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee affirmed that the merger and reorganization of local press agencies when rearranging provincial-level administrative units will continue to be implemented and completed in accordance with the Central's orientation and direction.
Previously, implementing Decision 362/QD-TTg dated April 3, 2019 of the Prime Minister on the National Press Development and Management Plan to 2025, in phase 1, Ho Chi Minh City (before the merger) rearranged the press system in a streamlined direction, through the conversion of the governing body and operating model.
From the original 27 agencies, the city now has 19 press agencies, including 7 press agencies (3 newspapers under the City Party Committee, 1 newspaper under the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, 1 newspaper under the City Youth Union and 2 religious newspapers), 1 radio station, 1 television station (under the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee), 7 magazines and 3 scientific magazines.
From July 1, 2025, four more press agencies of Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau provinces will be transferred to Ho Chi Minh City, bringing the total number of press agencies in the city to 23, with more than 3,000 employees.
Currently, Binh Duong Newspaper and Ba Ria - Vung Tau Newspaper have merged into Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper.
Ho Chi Minh City also established Ho Chi Minh City Radio and Television Station after merging Ho Chi Minh City Television Station, Ho Chi Minh City People's Radio Station, Binh Duong Province Radio and Television Station, and Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province Radio and Television Station.
