Fireworks 'battlefield' before launch: 'Great war of light' on Han River

The fireworks 'battlefield' by the Han River is ready to 'fire' on the opening night of DIFF 2025, promising to be filled with color, music and emotion, where 2 teams from 2 continents will tell cultural stories through light on the sky of Da Nang.

The man who has been "telling stories with light" for 14 years

Under the scorching sun of nearly 40 degrees Celsius in the Central region, Thanh Nien reporters were present at the fireworks display site on Bach Dang Street (Hai Chau District, Da Nang City) to record the final preparations for the "great battle of light" to open the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF) 2025 between the two teams Vietnam and Finland, which will take place on the night of May 31.

By the Han River, all members of the Vietnamese and Finnish fireworks teams diligently adjusted each cluster of fireworks, arranging each explosion according to a separate diagram.

As in previous years, this year's fireworks display is divided into two separate areas. The host team Vietnam takes charge of the area on the right side of the stage (seen from the stands on Tran Hung Dao Street, Son Tra District), while the defending champion Finland "guards" the left side.

The artillery range is ready to "fire" at the opening night with the competition of the two teams Vietnam and Finland.

As the host team, also the "storyteller of light" who has been with DIFF for 14 seasons, the Da Nang International Fireworks Team (Vietnam 1) was assigned the responsibility of opening this year's festival season. The performance called "Cultural Essence" was staged in 4 parts, lasting more than 20 minutes, using more than 5,000 fireworks, more than 100 special effects, combining traditional Vietnamese music and vibrant international rock songs.

"We want to tell a story with all our hearts about a Vietnam that is rich in identity but full of aspirations for integration. Every explosion, every color carries a message of peace , creativity and connection," said Mr. Nghia Hoang (Captain of the Da Nang International Fireworks Team).

The Vietnamese team members meticulously adjusted each cluster of fireworks, carefully placing each explosive in a carefully calculated position according to a separate diagram.

This year, the music in the home team's fireworks display is more carefully invested than ever with the advice of leading musicians. Traditional songs with new arrangements, combined with youthful melodies will take the audience through many emotions. In particular, many songs are chosen to reach the young, dynamic audience of a Vietnam entering the "era of growth".

Finland brings aurora to light up Han River

If the home team opens with a deep Asian identity, the representative from Northern Europe - JoHo Pyro Professional Fireworks AB (Finland) - will light up the sky of Da Nang with the mystery and romance of the aurora borealis. With the theme "Nordic Lights", the reigning champion of DIFF 2024 brings a performance inspired by the majestic nature and the symbiotic philosophy of the Northern European people.

Northern Europe representative, JoHo Pyro Professional Fireworks AB team, urgently completed the installation, ready to bring the brilliant aurora colors to the sky of Da Nang.

"We want the audience to feel the soul of Finland, a nation of thousands of islands with a long tradition of fishing and respect for nature. Each firecracker is a slice of memory, a part of our history and culture," said Johan (JoHo Pyro Team Captain).

Before being sealed and waiting for firing time, each artillery cluster is carefully inspected by experts down to every detail, ensuring every joint and firing direction is absolutely accurate.

With over 15,000 fireworks, including many of the unique water cannons that helped them win the championship last year, the upcoming performance of the Finnish team promises to overwhelm the audience. Each lighting effect is designed in sync with the background music of folk music mixed with modern rock and pop, creating a "celebration of art by fire".

Vietnamese stars "invade" international fireworks festival

Not only is it a lighting competition between two strong teams, the opening night of May 31, DIFF 2025 is also a top-notch "visual feast".

The audience will enjoy performances by leading artists such as Tung Duong, Nguyen Tran Trung Quan, singer Kieu Anh, Thu Hang... The program will be hosted by veteran MC Anh Tuan and beauty queen Luong Thuy Linh.

In particular, for the first time, augmented reality (AR) technology is applied at DIFF through the Sun Paradise Land platform. With an open space of more than 600,000m² and 10 million interactive pixels, viewers can explore Da Nang's cultural icons right on their phones, in a multi-layered experience never seen before at previous fireworks festivals.
