(Baohatinh.vn) - Synchronized and decisive solutions have not only helped people in Son Tien commune (Ha Tinh province) stabilize their lives but also contributed to changing their mindset and inspiring them to strive for sustainable poverty alleviation.

Over the past period, the Party Committee, government, Fatherland Front, and mass organizations of Son Tien commune have made concerted efforts to implement many poverty reduction solutions, focusing on prioritizing livelihood support, housing construction, and job creation for the people. These practical support models have become a "fishing rod," helping people strive to improve their lives.

From the "fishing rod" of a cow worth 11 million VND that they received as support in 2021, the family of Mr. Pham Le Thang (Thien Nhan 1 village) has now met the criteria for sustainable poverty alleviation.

While tidying up his livestock pens, Mr. Pham Le Thang (from Thien Nhan 1 village) happily chatted with the family. Five years ago, his wife passed away after a serious illness, leaving him to raise three young children alone. Without a stable job and with his family classified as a poor household in the commune, the lives of the four of them were in a desperate situation.

A turning point came for Mr. Thang in 2021, when his family received livelihood support in the form of a cow worth 11 million VND from the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction. Thanks to this "fishing rod," by 2023, his family had developed two more cows, becoming a near-poor household in the commune. From this stepping stone, Mr. Thang made many breakthroughs in his economic development thinking to escape near-poverty status in 2023. To date, in addition to the cows that provide annual profits, he also raises 100 chickens, 10 pigs, and more.

Mr. Thang said emotionally, "Thanks to the guidance from all levels, sectors, and localities, we have gained more motivation to strive forward. Currently, I have adapted to livestock farming techniques and will continue to explore and learn models suitable for my family's conditions to stabilize the economy and sustainably eradicate poverty."

Thanks to the attention of the local Party committee and government, Mr. Pham Le Bang (wearing a blue shirt) has changed his mindset about doing business to escape near-poverty and achieve a stable life.

In 2021, the family of Mr. Pham Le Bang (Thien Nhan 1 village, Son Tien commune) - a near-poor household in the commune - received a cow as a means of livelihood. Since receiving this "fishing rod," his economic mindset has changed. Knowing about the loan policy, in 2022, he borrowed 50 million VND to invest in an aluminum and glass production facility to increase his income, and in the same year, his family escaped the near-poor household category. Currently, his family raises one cow, four deer, sells animal feed, and manufactures mechanical products.

Mr. Mai Truong Sinh (Director of Son Tien General Agricultural Services Cooperative, Ao Tron village) accessed loan capital from the Social Policy Bank in 2020.

To create favorable conditions for poor and near-poor households to improve their lives and achieve stability, the Huong Son branch of the Social Policy Bank has implemented preferential credit programs to help households access loan capital, enabling them to invest in production, livestock farming, and economic development.

This resource has helped the life of Mr. Mai Truong Sinh's family (Director of Son Tien General Agricultural Service Cooperative, located in Ao Tron village) turn a new page. "Previously, my family was classified as a poor household in 2015, and by 2018 as a near-poor household in the commune. In 2020, I was able to access loans for disadvantaged production and business households to develop my economy. The cooperative currently collaborates with 10 households with a total production area of 5 hectares. My family alone has nearly 2 hectares planted with 2,000 guava trees and has switched to new varieties, generating an annual revenue of approximately 500 million VND. I plan to expand production by another 2 hectares in the near future."

The people of Son Tien regularly receive attention from the entire political system in poverty reduction efforts.

Providing livelihoods for sustainable poverty reduction is a sound policy of Son Tien commune in recent years. Instead of simply providing support, programs and projects have shifted to creating conditions for people to become self-reliant in production, create their own jobs, and increase their income. The combination of preferential credit, practical vocational training, and technology transfer is forming a solid foundation for rural economic development.

According to statistics, currently, Son Tien commune has only 126 poor households (accounting for 2.6%, a decrease of 0.63% compared to the end of 2024) and 180 near-poor households (accounting for 3.7%, a decrease of 0.51% compared to the end of 2024). Social welfare and basic service support are also emphasized. In 2025, implementing the policy of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses, the entire commune will have 69 poor households, near-poor households, households of war veterans, and disadvantaged households supported in building new houses and repairing existing ones; 100% of poor and near-poor households have health insurance cards.

The new farming and livestock models have helped the people of Son Tien commune change their economic mindset, serving as a driving force for sustainable poverty alleviation.

Mr. Nguyen Van Duan, Vice Chairman of the Son Tien Commune People's Committee, said: "In the coming time, we have identified poverty reduction as a key political task. At the same time, we will continue to develop a roadmap and plan, focusing on models such as land consolidation, livelihood support, and medicinal plant cultivation... In addition, we will expand planning and prioritize attracting investment to create jobs for people and provide them with the conditions to escape poverty sustainably."

In reality, when people are given a "fishing rod" instead of a "fish," they not only have the opportunity to escape poverty but also gradually rise to prosperity, creating a ripple effect in the community. This is the core element for sustainable poverty reduction in Son Tien, contributing to narrowing the development gap between regions, improving the quality of life, and strengthening people's trust in the policies of the Party and the State.
