The Inter-Context Exhibition introduces more than 35 paintings and fashion designs associated with the artist but recalling each person's own story.
Painter Huong Color explained to Tuoi Tre Online about the exhibition theme: “ Lien Canh means lotus in the mind. Lotus is a strong, emotional source of inspiration for artists, as well as Vietnamese people.”
With love for lotus
Huong Color chose to paint watercolors on silk and Do paper about lotus flowers with her mind. Nguyen Hoang Ngan immersed herself in nature with lotus and nude women also using watercolors and Do paper.
Designer Trinh Bich Thuy applied hand-drawn and embroidered lotus images to the design like a romantic love song.
The three artists have their own creative voices but have one thing in common: the endless inspiration of lotus. Everyone feels the beauty of lotus, but the artist has a different perspective, that is the life and creativity of the artist.
“For me, the way I depict lotus flowers is somewhat different from many other artists. I don't paint lotus flowers realistically or depict traditional beauty, but I paint lotus flowers with my mind.
I research colors quite deeply. Using colors is not simply decoration but a state of mind. Each color has its own energy, reflecting the artist's emotions at that time" - Huong Color said.
Artist Huong Color's exhibition space with 16 abstract paintings, lotus paintings on raw silk, do paper and art ceramics.
Once again, traditional materials such as silk and do paper are recreated with a new method of expression: color bleeding, free brushwork, as if the colors find their own way, drawing nameless emotions.

Honoring traditional materials
Artist and designer Nguyen Hoang Ngan brings to the exhibition the Lien Nuong collection. The triptych of nude women bathing in a lotus field is a bright highlight of the entire space. Nguyen Hoang Ngan's depiction of women is not erotic.
"I put my emotions into the painting of a girl bathing in a lotus field, not caring too much about whether people say it's vulgar or elegant. If I don't draw vulgarity, I won't have a vulgar painting" - Hoang Ngan shared.

From traditional Vietnamese silk, designer Trinh Bich Thuy created the Van Tuong Lien collection. Soft, graceful lines honor the gentle beauty of the wearer. Lotus and cloud motifs are meticulously attached, bringing a feeling of nostalgia and peace.
The color palette is carefully selected, with soft tones such as the color of early morning sunlight, young leaves and flower petals, creating a clear and poetic visual space.

“One thing that I always keep in my creations is the connection with traditional craft villages. This time I continue to use handmade materials from many Vietnamese craft villages as a tribute.
During my trips and direct contact with the artisans, I could clearly feel their deep love for their profession. There were artisans who hand-pulled each thread of silk and wove each meter of fabric with dedication and patience, not only to create a product, but also to preserve a part of cultural memory.
In the Van Tuong Lien collection, I used very special materials, which are fabrics woven from silk and lotus silk" - Trinh Bich Thuy confided to Tuoi Tre Online .
The contemporary painting and fashion design exhibition Shapes of Lotus takes place from August 2 to September 2 at Sigma Gallery (107 N3C Street, Global City, An Phu Ward, Ho Chi Minh City).
