Mobile police sergeant Nguyen Ngoc Minh Nhat, who died while on duty, has been proposed for recognition as a martyr.

On the morning of March 14, the Ministry of Home Affairs submitted a document to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh proposing to grant a Certificate of Merit to Senior Sergeant Nguyen Ngoc Minh Nhat, a non-commissioned officer of the Mobile Police Department of Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Police.
The Ministry stated the conditions for granting the Certificate of Merit to Sergeant Nhat based on the Ordinance on preferential treatment for people with revolutionary contributions and Decree 131/2021 of the Government detailing and implementing measures for the above Ordinance.
As reported by Tuoi Tre Online , at noon on March 3, Sergeant Nhat sacrificed his life while working with other police forces to control Duong Huu Tri (38 years old, residing on Nguyen An Ninh Street, Ward 7, Vung Tau City) for a drug test.
When approached, Tri used a knife to stab Sergeant Nhat in the genital area.
Although he was taken to the emergency room and his teammates were willing to donate blood, Nhat died due to severe injuries.
On March 4, Colonel Vu Nhu Ha - Director of Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Police - signed a decision to posthumously promote mobile police officer Nguyen Ngoc Minh Nhat from corporal to sergeant.
On the morning of March 6, Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Police held a ceremony to posthumously award the President's Second Class Fatherland Protection Medal to Sergeant Nhat.
Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Youth Union also posthumously awarded the Central Youth Union's Brave Youth badge to Mr. Nhat.
