(Live) Flash flood in Lang Nu, Lao Cai: 3 more bodies found

On the morning of September 12, rescue work in Lang Nu continued to be deployed early. According to information from the authorities, at 8:10 a.m., 3 more bodies were discovered in the downstream area where the flash flood occurred.

According to Tuoi Tre Online, from 6am, the authorities were present at the cultural house of Lang Nu village to prepare for the continued search for the victims.
This morning, Comrade Tran Cam Tu, Politburo member and Chairman of the Central Inspection Commission, will visit and encourage the forces and people in Lang Nu village.
In addition, this morning, Mr. Hau A Lenh, Minister, Chairman of the Ethnic Committee and Ms. Ha Thi Nga, President of the Vietnam Women's Union also visited and encouraged the people of Lang Nu village and the authorities who are searching for the missing person.
At 6:20 a.m., Major General Nguyen Dang Khai, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of Military Region 2, assigned tasks to the forces, including requiring high concentration on searching for the missing victims. He pointed out that the search could not be done in a day or two, but could last for a long time, so safety must be ensured , and adequate equipment and supplies provided. At 7:15 a.m., two more bodies were discovered in the downstream area where the flash flood occurred. At 8:10 a.m., according to the announcement of the authorities, one more body was found in the upstream area. Thus, from this morning until now, three more bodies have been found.

"The search method must rely on the people and the search process must constantly change methods to achieve high efficiency because there are shallow places but there are places where the mud is buried very deep...", General Khai requested. Directing at the beginning of the hour, Mr. Trinh Xuan Truong, Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee, said that the locality will ensure the equipment of flycams to support the search. He also requested that warning devices such as gongs, speakers, binoculars, etc. must be provided. He also expressed his agreement that the search must rely on the people. This morning, the locality has a list of 25 local people to support the authorities in the search.

At the scene, the water flow, although receding, was still flowing quite strongly with a lot of mud, muddy trash, many large rocks, many logs... Sharing with Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Sam Van Bong (an escapee in the flash flood) said that his family lived in the area at the beginning of Vang Kheo, where the flash flood first swept through and 5 people in the family were lost, including his wife, son and his wife, 38-day-old grandson and the youngest daughter. Currently, only the son and the baby have been found, while 3 relatives in the family have not been found. "Everything happened so quickly, I had just gone out to see the water with a few people for a few minutes when the mud and rocks came crashing down, rolling away everything. In just a few minutes, my whole family lost their wife, children, grandchildren, and house," Mr. Bong shared.

According to Mr. Bong, this morning he and some local people will continue to support the search force. After hearing the news that his mother, stepfather and younger brother were killed in a flash flood, Mr. Luc Van Viet (in Xuan Hoa, 30km from the scene), quickly returned here to coordinate with the search force. Mr. Viet said that his parents have been here since 1995-1996 and every year there are floods, but there has never been a flash flood that flattened everything like this.

Anh Viet informed that his stepfather's body has been found, but his mother and younger brother are still missing. According to the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), due to the impact of storm No. 3 and the floods after the storm, localities have counted the damage as of 10pm on September 11 with 326 dead and missing (181 dead, 145 missing ).
On the morning of September 12, representatives of Tuoi Tre newspaper presented 20 gifts and some cartons of milk to representatives of Lang Nu village leaders - those who were directly receiving relief goods to distribute to households in the village. Currently, the entire labor force of the village is at the scene participating in rescue work, waiting for information about the victims, and supporting the burial work.
