The continuous increase in coffee prices has created a wave of massive investment in this industry. Many domestic farmers and businesses, as well as international investors, are expanding coffee growing areas to take advantage of the opportunity when prices are at record highs.

In Vietnam, Hoang Anh Gia Lai Joint Stock Company of Mr. Doan Nguyen Duc (Bau Duc) has just completed planting 2,000 hectares of Arabica coffee and plans to plant another 1,000 hectares this year. This enterprise aims to have a total of 10,000 hectares of coffee in Vietnam and Laos by 2027, of which 70% is Arabica and 30% is Robusta.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, as of September, the country’s coffee area reached 764,400 hectares, an increase of more than 16,000 hectares over the same period last year. The expanded area is mainly in the Central Highlands, where natural conditions are favorable for coffee trees to grow and develop.

Not only the area, but also the coffee productivity has increased thanks to new varieties and modern farming techniques. It is forecasted that in the 2025-2026 crop year, Vietnam's coffee output will increase by about 120,000 tons, helping the coffee industry continue to maintain its position as the world's leading exporter.

Mr. Nguyen Nam Hai, Chairman of the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (VICOFA), said that the news that the US would reduce the import tax on Vietnamese coffee to 0% was not too surprising because the US had announced it earlier. This is consistent with the reality that the US does not produce coffee and is completely dependent on imports, so reducing the tax to 0% is inevitable.

If the policy is applied, not only Vietnam but also other exporting countries such as Brazil, Indonesia or Colombia will benefit. The US tax exemption will create a fair competitive environment, help expand the market and bring benefits to American consumers.

The Vice President of VICOFA, who is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vinh Hiep Company Limited, commented that this decision could be a move to show President Donald Trump's "favor" for Vietnamese coffee. The tax reduction helps Vietnamese businesses increase their competitiveness and expand exports to the US market.

However, changing the taste of American consumers will take time, because they are used to Brazilian Arabica coffee. Vietnamese Robusta coffee will need 2-3 years to be widely accepted in the US market. However, Vietnam's coffee exports have increased significantly in recent months, showing positive signs of customer acceptance.
