After graduating from high school, Xuan Nghia studied electrician and welder at Yen Vien Electromechanical School. During his time at school, he participated in the school's mass art performance and won medals and awards with his Quan Ho singing performance.
Thanks to the achievements recorded from the competitions, Xuan Nghia is increasingly confident in his singing ability in folk music. His passion and love for traditional art is constantly nurtured, giving him more determination to pursue the path of Cheo art.
“Born in the Kinh Bac region with a rich cultural tradition, I soon developed a love for folk songs such as Quan Ho and Cheo. Listening to the folk songs of my predecessors, I longed for the day I could stand on a professional stage like that,” Xuan Nghia shared.
Luckily, Xuan Nghia knew how to seize the opportunity and entered the Army Cheo Theater in an actor audition in 1996. Before taking the exam, Xuan Nghia was taken by his brother Xuan Hinh to People's Artist Manh Tuan's house to practice.
“First, he (People's Artist Manh Tuan) told me to try the rhythm and then perform a comedy segment. When I presented the idea and performed it for him, he praised me for my good sense of humor and voice,” Xuan Nghia shared.
Recognizing Xuan Nghia's talent, People's Artist Manh Tuan taught him a few clownish tunes. Thanks to that, when he auditioned for the Army Cheo Theater, he performed excellently with his humorous charm through a few Cheo tunes.
With his excellent performance, he was admitted to the Cheo actor class of the Army Cheo Theater and was assigned to the Army University of Culture and Arts to study and train. After studying at the school for about 3 years, he graduated and was promoted to the rank of Second Lieutenant with excellent achievements and good discipline.
“In the military environment, discipline and order are always put first. Each member of the Army Cheo Theatre is both an artist and a soldier on the ideological and cultural front, spreading and preserving the traditional artistic values of the nation,” Xuan Nghia shared.
To produce excellent works of art, Xuan Nghia is fortunate to have colleagues who are compatible and in sync with each other in terms of acting, including People's Artist Tu Long. "Tu Long is a multi-talented person and the two of us act very well together. But now that he has become a leader, we have fewer opportunities to act together," Xuan Nghia shared.
What artist Xuan Nghia learned the most from People's Artist Tu Long was passion and responsibility for work. The image of an enthusiastic leader who always renews himself became a source of inspiration for Xuan Nghia on his journey to pursue and preserve traditional art. "People's Artist Tu Long's participation in the program Anh trai vu ngan cong gai created a good effect on the audience. Tu Long is now not only an artist of the state and the army but also an artist of the people", Xuan Nghia shared.
