33 years of perseverance and innovation
During the 33-year journey of construction and development (1992 - 2025), the Center for National Defense and Security Education (Thai Nguyen University) has constantly strived to improve the quality of training, making an important contribution to the cause of national defense education for all people, meeting the requirements of the task of building and protecting the Fatherland in the new situation.
Since 2008, the Center has continuously grown, gradually improving its organization, improving the quality of its staff and facilities, and perfecting its management and training model to meet the requirements of innovation in higher education and digital transformation in the field of National Defense and Security Education.
By 2025, the Center will have a total of 65 staff, civil servants and employees, including 1 Associate Professor, 3 PhDs, 30 Masters and 23 Bachelors. The team of managers, lecturers and seconded officers are well-trained, dedicated to their profession, and are capable of meeting the requirements of teaching and managing the National Defense and Security Education subject for many students in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training .
In particular, the Center focuses on organizing professional training courses and participating in training courses organized by the Ministry of Education and Training and Military Region 1 every year. At the same time, it proactively develops internal training programs to ensure consistency and effectiveness in teaching implementation.
Learner-centered, interactive and hands-on

In the process of implementing the curriculum, the Center always adheres to the goal of taking learners as the center, harmoniously combining theory and practice, promoting students' proactive thinking through group discussion activities, simulating real-life situations, and military training.
Lectures are standardized in a modern, active direction, applying information technology, projection systems and vivid visual models. Theoretical content is tested in the form of multiple choice tests on computers, while practice is assessed through questions and direct manipulation. This is a multidimensional assessment model, helping to discover and promote the real capacity of learners.
The Center currently owns a system of lecture halls, dormitories, training grounds, and training grounds that are systematically invested in, ensuring the best response to centralized teaching and learning. Specifically, the Center has 2 lecture hall buildings with full specialized classrooms, computer rooms, a large hall with a capacity of 600 seats, a 2-storey dining hall serving 2,000 students/meal, and 6 dormitories with the capacity to receive nearly 1,800 students/session.
The training grounds include tactical training grounds, grenade launchers, mobile shooting areas, defensive and offensive combat training areas, and troop command areas... which are reasonably planned and capable of serving many student platoons at the same time.
Strictly implementing the regulations on joint training of National Defense and Security Education, the Center is currently coordinating with 16 units. In the 2022-2023 school year, the Center organized 10 concentrated training sessions with nearly 10,000 students participating. This number increased to 11,701 students in the 2023-2024 school year.
In the 2024-2025 school year, the Center organized 12 training sessions, received 11,837 students, and issued more than 5,900 certificates, expected to be completed in the last 2 training sessions of the year.
Notably, the Center has effectively organized training programs for subjects transferring from intermediate and college to university in accordance with the spirit of Official Dispatch No. 5031/BGDĐT-GDQPAN of the Ministry of Education and Training. The program is flexibly built in the direction of recognizing learned content, supplementing missing parts, saving time and costs for learners.
In order to effectively implement Decision No. 10/2025/QD-TTg dated April 19, 2025 of the Prime Minister regulating the organization and operation of the National Defense and Security Education Center (effective from June 3, 2025), the Center is urgently developing a draft of the organization and operation regulations, soliciting comments from relevant parties, and submitting them for approval according to regulations.
The Center also plans to coordinate with the Department of Education and Training of Thai Nguyen province to conduct training for teachers of National Defense and Security Education at high schools in the area. This is a strategic step, affirming the role of the Center not only at the university level but also spreading to general education, contributing to improving the quality of National Defense and Security Education in the whole province.
