People of Trung Thanh commune, Trang Dinh district take care of the forest

Trung Thanh Commune, Trang Dinh District has 5 villages, 286 households, and 1,280 people. In recent years, to support people to develop the economy and reduce poverty sustainably, the Party Committee and the commune government have implemented many synchronous solutions, focusing on exploiting the potential and strengths of the commune in developing the hill and forest economy and livestock farming.

Mr. Nong Van Hai, Chairman of Trung Thanh Commune People's Committee, said: In order to effectively implement poverty reduction work, every year, the Commune People's Committee issues documents to direct and organize the implementation of poverty reduction work. In particular, the commune focuses on propaganda work to raise awareness among people to rise out of poverty, not to rely on the support of the State. Accordingly, promoting the potential and advantages of forestry land (the commune has 4,784 hectares of forestry land, accounting for nearly 90% of the natural land area), the Commune People's Committee has focused on propaganda, mobilization, and support for people to develop the forest economy. Since then, people in the commune have focused on developing acacia, eucalyptus, and cinnamon trees. Up to now, the commune's planted forest area has been over 1,100 hectares.

In order for people to have knowledge and experience to apply in production, every year, the Commune People's Committee has coordinated with the district's professional agencies to organize 2-3 training courses on transferring science and technology and vocational training on animal husbandry and cultivation (including afforestation). In addition, the Party Committee and the commune government have directed organizations and unions to receive loan capital entrustment from the District Social Policy Bank Transaction Office to help people have capital to invest in production. Up to now, the total outstanding loan program in the commune is 11.6 billion VND, with over 150 households borrowing.

Mr. Nong Van Huy, Khuoi Kin village said: Previously, my family was a poor household, the economy was very difficult. In 2021, through training courses on science and technology transfer organized by the commune in coordination with the district, my family implemented a buffalo breeding model. During the care process, I regularly learned more knowledge from models inside and outside the commune, thanks to which my family's buffalo herd developed well. Every year, my family sells 5-6 buffaloes to the market, bringing in an income of 70 million VND. By the end of 2024, my family has escaped poverty. In addition, my family also borrowed capital from the District Social Policy Bank Transaction Office with an amount of 50 million VND to invest in planting 3 hectares of forest (acacia, cinnamon). It is expected that this year the acacia forest will be exploited, bringing income to the family.

In addition to creating conditions for loans, the Party Committee and the commune government have mobilized resources from national target programs to support people in developing production. From 2021 to present, implementing the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction, the whole commune has had 22 poor and near-poor households supported with 134 buffaloes and pigs, with a total cost of over 1 billion VND.

Thanks to the attention and support of the Party Committee and the government, along with the proactiveness and positivity of the people, currently, 90% of the households in the commune develop the forest economy. This is one of the four communes with large forest areas in the district. In addition, the commune also has livestock models such as buffalo, pigs, goats, etc. By effectively exploiting the commune's strengths in economic development, it has significantly contributed to reducing the commune's poverty rate over the years. By the end of 2024, the commune's poverty rate will be 2.71% (down 13.59% compared to 2021); the average income per capita of the commune will reach 29.5 million VND/person/year (in 2021 it will be 26.6 million VND/person/year).

Mr. Chu Tuan Doanh, Head of the District Department of Agriculture and Environment, said: Trung Thanh is a commune in Region 3 with many difficulties in the district. However, in recent years, the Party Committee and the commune government have effectively implemented policies, programs and projects to reduce poverty. From there, it has aroused the will and determination to develop the economy and escape poverty of the people. Thereby, contributing to the overall poverty reduction work of the district. With this result, in February 2025, Trung Thanh commune was awarded a certificate of merit by the Chairman of the District People's Committee for its outstanding achievements in the emulation movement "For the poor - Leaving no one behind" in 2024.
