University of Transport: 'The leading flag' leading in training advanced transport technology and infrastructure

On the morning of November 15, in the joyful atmosphere of the whole country towards Vietnamese Teachers' Day November 20, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung attended the Ceremony to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the University of Transport's tradition (November 15, 1945 - November 15, 2025) and receive the First Class Labor Medal.

Cultivating people to "pave the way" and create "lifeline" projects

For the University of Transport, the reception The First Class Labor Medal - the most noble award of the Party and State is a heroic milestone, recognizing the great, persistent and excellent contributions of the school during eight decades of construction and development for the cause of educating people "going ahead to pave the way" of the country.

"Looking back over the past 80 years, we are extremely proud of the great contributions of many generations of teachers and students of the University of Transport - beautiful symbols of intelligence, creativity and spirit of serving the country," the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.

Over the past 80 years, from the University of Transport, tens of thousands of talented engineers, scientists, experts, and managers have studied and grown up, spreading across the land and sky of the beautiful Fatherland, creating vital projects of the country.

From the restoration of the railway line from Hanoi to Muc Nam Quan, the country's first major project connecting the capital Hanoi with socialist countries right after the successful resistance war against France; to the restoration of Ham Rong bridge during the resistance war.

From teachers, generations of students left their pens and went to the front to open the historic Ho Chi Minh trail; to restoring the North-South Railway, the backbone connecting the two regions of the country in peacetime;

From taking the pioneering task of establishing the country's second base in the first years of the renovation period; to national-scale projects: expanding National Highway 1, highways spreading across the country; to pioneering urban railway projects in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City;...

Up to now, there are high-speed railway projects on the North-South axis and international connecting routes, connecting seaports, airports...

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, those projects are not only symbols of infrastructure development, but also a testament to the stature, intelligence and mettle of Vietnam - where generations of teachers and students of the University of Transport have contributed with their intelligence, passion, sweat and above all, the responsibility of scientists to the task of protecting, building and developing the country.

Over the past 80 years, the University has trained more than 150,000 engineers, bachelors, 15,000 masters and hundreds of doctors for the country; formed a team of nearly 900 staff and lecturers, of which more than 50% have doctoral degrees; carried out many scientific research projects for core technologies and strategic technologies of the country; proactively organized research, which has been initially applied effectively in practice.

Quality, class and international vision

Imbued with Uncle Ho's teaching: "Traffic is the lifeblood of an organization. Good traffic makes everything easy. Bad traffic makes everything stagnant", entering a new development stage with many new opportunities and challenges, the Deputy Prime Minister requested the University of Transport to focus on implementing a number of contents.

Firstly, the goal is that in the next 5 years, the University of Transport will be in the Top 250-300 leading universities in Asia, with some key majors in the Top 200, firmly affirming its position as a key national university in science and technology in the field of Transport; moving towards affirming its position as a multidisciplinary, key university in the Capital region and Ho Chi Minh City area. This is not only a ranking indicator, but also a commitment to the quality, class and international vision of the school.

Second, strengthen innovation in training programs, integrate advanced content on digital technology, artificial intelligence, and big data into core majors such as smart transportation and green logistics.

By 2030, the school needs to achieve at least 50% of its training programs meeting international standards, focusing on training high-quality engineers to meet the human resource needs of national projects such as the North-South Expressway Phase 2 and the urban railway system, high-speed railway, etc.

Third, promote scientific research and technology transfer, prioritizing practical application projects such as sustainable urban transport models and automatic seaport management systems.

Specifically, focusing resources on forming laboratories, research centers, and international-class science and technology centers as the core, expanding pedagogical and creative spaces, forming an innovation and digital transformation ecosystem to create a "launching pad" for students, lecturers and businesses to research, innovate and commercialize scientific results.

Fourth, proactively propose to the Government, Ministries, Departments, Branches and localities major problems in science and technology, proactively organize research to decode and master national strategic technologies; especially in areas where the school has leading strengths such as modern railways, semiconductor technology, smart transportation, smart cities, new materials and sustainable development.

Fifth, focus on building a team of lecturers, especially the younger generation, increase doctoral training, support student start-ups, build a creative school culture, and connect with the community. Teachers need to continue to be role models, and students need to practice courage, creativity, and be ready to contribute to the country.

Sixth, promote the expansion of international cooperation, build student and lecturer exchange programs, first with leading schools in Asia - Pacific, aiming to become a regional and world traffic research center.

Along with that, the Deputy Prime Minister requested that Government agencies and Central and local Committees, Ministries, branches actively accompany, support, and create all conditions for the school to well assume its leading role as an excellent training center on Technology 4.0 in the field of transport technology and advanced, smart transport infrastructure./.
