Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Trung, Vice Principal, said that previously the school considered independent transcripts (about 10%) of the target or combined transcript scores with specialized competency assessment test scores (30-40% of the target). However, from 2025, the school will not use transcript results for either of these methods. The reason is that according to the new program, each student will choose and have transcript scores in different combinations, so this admission method is no longer suitable.

The specialized competency assessment exam will be one of the school's main admission methods in 2025. In addition, the school will consider admission based on high school graduation exam results and direct admission according to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.

For the school's specialized competency assessment exam, students must take at least two subjects, one of which is a major subject (depending on the combination). The admission score is the total score of the major subject multiplied by a factor of two, plus the remaining subject. The admission method based on the specialized competency assessment exam score is expected to apply to more than 30 training majors and about 40-50% of the target depending on the major.

In previous years, the high school transcript benchmark of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education resulted in tens of thousands of excellent students failing the exam. Mr. Le Phan Quoc, Deputy Head of Training Department, said that the high school transcript benchmark of majors was due to the low enrollment quota of the school using this method. The school only recruited a maximum of 10% of the quota using the high school transcript benchmark, so many majors only recruited 2 candidates, leading to very high benchmark scores. On the other hand, the number of candidates applying for admission using the high school transcript benchmark increased every year.
