Posthumous promotion to Major for police officers who died in the line of duty

(PLVN) - On April 18, General Luong Tam Quang, Minister of Public Security, signed a decision to promote from Lieutenant to Major the rank of officer Nguyen Dang Khai who heroically sacrificed his life while capturing a group of drug criminals in Quang Ninh.

Major Nguyen Dang Khai (29 years old, from Phu Cu, Hung Yen province) is an officer of the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department, Quang Ninh Provincial Police.

At around 8:20 p.m. on April 17, in the area near Dragon Castle apartment building in Ha Long City ( Quang Ninh province), Nguyen Huu Dang was caught red-handed while preparing to trade 16 heroin cakes. Immediately afterwards, the reconnaissance teams continued to deploy to arrest related subjects in the ring.

During the pursuit of the suspects near the Dai Yen toll station, the suspects fought back fiercely with AK guns. At that time, Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Dang Khai was shot. Although his teammates took him to Bai Chay Hospital - the nearest medical facility - for emergency treatment, Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Dang Khai did not survive due to severe injuries.

As of 4:30 a.m. on April 18, the authorities had arrested a total of four suspects: Nguyen Huu Dang, Ha Thuong Hai, Ha Quang Son and Hoang Van Dong. The seized items included 16 heroin bars, 2 military guns, 1 grenade, 3 cars and many related evidences.

Quang Ninh Provincial Police have issued a wanted notice and continue to hunt for the remaining suspect, Bui Dinh Khanh, while coordinating with functional units to block waterways, roads, border routes, border gates, and control vehicles entering and leaving the province.
