On May 29, the Drug Administration of Vietnam said it had just received a report from the Hanoi Center for Drug, Cosmetic and Food Testing that the product sample did not meet quality requirements.
Specifically, through testing the sample of Theophylline Extended Release Tablets 200mg (Theophylin 200mg) at An An pharmacy (address 153, residential group 14, Kien Hung ward, Ha Dong district, Hanoi city), the center discovered that the batch of medicine did not meet the quality requirements for the quantitative index of Theophylline, only reaching 6.3% compared to the content stated on the label.
The drug Theophylline Extended Release Tablets 200mg (Theophylin 200mg) found to be in violation has batch number 21127, manufacturing date 26-2-2022, expiry date 26/2/2026; manufactured at Pharmacy Laboratories Plus; the drug sample does not have information about the circulation registration number and/or import license number, and the importing facility on the label.
This medication is used to treat asthma patients.
The Drug Administration of Vietnam requests that the Departments of Health coordinate with relevant agencies to inspect, verify, and trace the origin of the above counterfeit drugs.
At the same time, direct the testing center to increase sampling and quality testing of drugs in circulation in the area for drugs at risk of being counterfeit or of poor quality.
To ensure safety for users, the Drug Administration of Vietnam requests the Hanoi Department of Health to urgently report to Steering Committee 389 and coordinate with the police, market management agencies and relevant authorities to inspect and examine An An pharmacy; trace the origin of the product batch with the above information, and strictly handle violators according to regulations.
The Drug Administration also requested that units notify drug trading and usage establishments and people not to buy/sell or use the above products; promptly report any suspicious signs of production and trading of counterfeit drugs or drugs of unknown origin to health agencies and relevant authorities.
