In order to effectively promote population policy content and bring it closer to the people, Ba Chẽ district is one of the localities that has effectively implemented population communication work.
Last April, Ba Chẽ district organized a series of community communication conferences on population and development in 2025 at 34 village cultural centers in 6 communes. All communication sessions were held in the evening, starting at 7:30 PM, making it convenient for people to participate after work. Thanks to this flexible approach, a large number of people attended, especially those of childbearing age, families with teenagers, and young adults.
Ms. Ly Siu Kiu (Khe Sau village, Nam Son commune, Ba Che district) shared: “Since participating in population education sessions, I have received regular advice and reminders from doctors and nurses to visit the commune health station for check-ups and monitoring to protect my own and my family's health. Not only that, but I have also gained more knowledge about reproductive health and pre-marital health. I have reminded my children to have health check-ups before marriage to ensure a happy marriage and healthy children.”
Dr. Hoang Van Ba, Head of Nam Son Health Station, said: "Population communication and health education serve as a bridge to help people in the area protect their own and their families' health. Therefore, during community outreach sessions, people not only receive information about healthcare but also have their questions about disease prevention answered promptly. Furthermore, health workers at the station have visited each household to conduct prenatal checkups, provide nutritional advice, and guide pregnant women on regular health monitoring to minimize risks and avoid unfortunate obstetric complications."
Over the past period, the Provincial Population Department has proactively developed plans and coordinated with units strong in information and communication to diversify communication methods, publishing information on population issues that attract attention and generate public interest; and promoting communication activities aimed at achieving the goal of having fewer, healthier families. This has changed the perceptions of couples regarding the meaning and importance of reproductive health care and family planning; and has coordinated with various departments, agencies, and organizations to integrate the Party and State's policies and guidelines on population and development.
Communication efforts focused on specific areas such as: encouraging young people to seek pre-marital counseling and health check-ups; promoting prenatal screening, diagnosis, and treatment for certain diseases and disabilities in pregnant women; screening, diagnosis, and treatment for congenital diseases in newborns; and raising awareness about the harmful effects and consequences of child marriage and consanguineous marriage, while strictly enforcing legal regulations.
Thanks to effective communication activities, in 2024, 98.9% of pregnant women received prenatal screening and 79.9% of newborns were screened for at least four diseases; the rate of elderly people receiving regular health check-ups reached 98.2%. Furthermore, in the first three months of 2025, the number of new users of contraceptive methods was 108,865/104,753, achieving 103.9% of the plan.
In the coming period, the Provincial Population Department will continue to innovate the content of population communication; focusing on targeted and prioritized communication, emphasizing diverse forms of direct and indirect communication through various communication products to suit each target group and propaganda purpose... in order to achieve comprehensive goals regarding population size, structure, and quality, and to leverage the advantages of the golden population structure, adapt to population aging, and contribute to the goal of sustainable population development.
