The heroic nature of " Loyalty and Fortitude " - from the fires of history
In the glorious historical flow of the Vietnamese people, there are lands that are not only present on the geographical map, but also engraved in the hearts of the people as a living legend - a shining symbol of patriotism, indomitable will and indomitable spirit. Long An is such a land.
Like a steel gate guarding the Southwest of Saigon, Long An has carried a heavy historical responsibility since very early on. Every inch of land here is soaked with sweat, blood and flowers of countless generations who have fallen to create a great epic called “Loyalty and steadfastness, the whole people fight the enemy”.
As a land connecting Saigon - Gia Dinh and the Mekong Delta, Long An soon became a fierce front line in the two sacred resistance wars of the nation. From the Dong Thap Muoi base - "Viet Bac of the South" - to places like Rach Kien, Binh Thanh, "Dam la toi troi"... Long An has proven that patriotism does not wait for conditions, the will to fight does not need promises. There, every citizen is a soldier, every village is a fortress. The People's War is realized with blood, sweat and courage - with three prongs: armed, political , and military - operating like a living body, closely linked to the breath of every citizen.
Small guerrilla teams at the forefront of the storm grew into strong main combat units such as Battalion 1 - awarded the title of Hero three times. Long An people fought not only with guns, but also with indomitable faith and creative intelligence - from primitive weapons to bombs and bullets that the enemy improved into tools to destroy the enemy.
If there is any symbol worthy of being engraved on the bas-relief of Long An history, it is the image of mothers and sisters with bare feet and bare hands, daring to bravely step out to face tanks and bullets. Their indomitable footsteps in Duc Hoa, Can Giuoc, Ben Luc... turned village roads into battlefields, and turned the hearts of Vietnamese women into staunch battle lines. From there, the "people's heart battle" - the ultimate weapon - was formed. It is an invisible but impenetrable wall, where the enemy's strength becomes meaningless before the indomitable national spirit.
The Dong Khoi Movement in 1960 was like a bell that tore through the oppressive night, shaking the enemy's repressive apparatus. On the night of Hiep Hoa (1963), Long An people struck a thunderbolt into the "Special War". Then came the 45 days and nights of death-defying fighting in the lower Can Giuoc region (1967), each inch of land preserved was like a solemn oath: Never retreat before the enemy!
As the Spring of 1975 approached, Long An once again played a key role at the Southwest gateway of Saigon. Holding Tan An Bridge, holding Highway 4, holding the enemy's supply "bloodline" - Long An cut off the last nerves of the defeated. And in the moment of speeding towards the liberation of Saigon, the small boats carrying soldiers crossed the West Vam Co River amidst the rain of bombs and bullets - that was the most beautiful, most tragic image of the love between the army and the people, of a nation that knew how to stand up and win with its own two feet.
The Party, army and people of Long An were honored with the title "Loyal and steadfast, the whole people fight the enemy", along with a series of noble medals such as Sao Vang, Ho Chi Minh ... - but above all, the greatest reward is the belief, the immortal spirit, the shining example for today's generation. In today's development journey, Long An is no longer in flames, but still burning with the flame of that spirit. Each project, each road, each young generation growing up here - are continuing the heroic epic of the past with practical actions: building a rich, civilized, and affectionate homeland.
Long An - not only a place name, but also a symbol. "Loyal and resilient" - not only a title, but also a spiritual heritage forged through fire and shining in peace. And that is why we do not only mention Long An with the past, but with faith in the future!
50 years of construction from a strong tradition
From the flames of victory in April 1975, Long An - the land that was once a fierce front line, where the spirit of "Loyalty and steadfastness, the whole people fighting the enemy" was forged - rose up after the war, entering the construction process with an unyielding spirit, a persistent will to innovate. Fifty years - not a long journey in the history of the nation, but enough for Long An to transform strongly from a poor, barren land after the war into a dynamic growth pole of the South.
Immediately after liberation, Long An focused on restoring production, reclaiming Dong Thap Muoi, turning the acid sulfate soil into a large rice granary, contributing to ensuring national food security. Along with that, transport infrastructure, irrigation, electricity and water were gradually invested, creating momentum for long-term development. Since the Doi Moi (1986), Long An has boldly taken the lead in economic reform, removing barriers to rivers and markets, opening up goods, and awakening production potential. In particular, after joining the Southern Key Economic Zone (2003), the province has promoted investment attraction, developed industry and services, and shifted the economic structure towards modernization.
Notable results are: in 2024, GRDP increased by 8.3%; budget revenue reached more than 25,800 billion VND (1 billion USD). PCI 2023 ranked 2nd in the country, attractive investment environment, strong administrative reform. Long An became the economic locomotive of the Mekong Delta, a destination for domestic and international strategic capital flows. Rural areas also changed significantly. 82.6% of communes met new rural standards, synchronous traffic - telecommunications infrastructure, connected with Ho Chi Minh City and international seaports. People's lives are constantly improving: average income reached more than 107 million VND/year, the poverty rate decreased to 0.56%, education - health care is increasingly developed. Entering a new era, with the Provincial Planning to 2030, vision to 2050, Long An is determined to become a dynamic and sustainable economic development center at the southern gateway, strongly connecting with Ho Chi Minh City and the world.
50 years of change from the ashes of war, Long An has proven one thing: Tradition is not a static past, but a flame that lights the way, forges the inner strength to reach the future. And today, from the source of "courage and steadfastness", Long An is continuing to write a new heroic epic - with the aspiration, intelligence and strength of the People.
Inheriting the tradition , firmly stepping into the future
Half a century after the country's reunification, Long An has transformed dramatically - from a purely agricultural province that suffered many losses during the war, to a bright spot in the development of the Southern Key Economic Zone and the Mekong Delta. Today's achievements are the crystallization of the spirit of solidarity and perseverance of the entire Party, government and people; the creative inheritance of the tradition of "Loyalty and steadfastness, the whole people fight the enemy", transformed into the driving force to build an increasingly rich and civilized homeland.
With great contributions to the cause of innovation and development, the Party Committee and People of Long An were honored to be awarded the First Class Labor Medal and the Ho Chi Minh Medal - noble awards, affirming the 50-year journey of perseverance, creativity and constant progress. Today, on the basis of glorious tradition and achievements, Long An continues to break through, innovate, deeply integrate, persistently implement strategic goals: administrative reform, build a streamlined and effective apparatus, effectively exploit potential, improve the quality of life for the people.
With strong faith and strong aspirations, Long An is determined to join the whole country in realizing the cause of industrialization and modernization, contributing to continuing the epic of development, worthy of the heroic past and bright future of the homeland.
