Remember Uncle Ho's words
As the person who had the honor of standing to protect Uncle Ho at the Khoong village yard, Chieng An commune (now sub-region 5, Yen Chau town) in 1959, Mr. Quang Van Mua, in Met Sai village, Sap Vat commune, although he has turned 90 years old, the memories of meeting Uncle Ho are still vivid in his mind. For him, meeting Uncle Ho and participating in protecting his absolute safety is the greatest honor and pride in his life.
In the stilt house, Mr. Mua hung certificates of merit and noble titles such as: First Class Anti-American Resistance Medal, First Class Military Exploit Medal, Glorious Soldier Medal... in solemn positions and carefully preserved. At the age of 18, Mr. Mua joined the commune's militia to join the army in the Dien Bien Phu Campaign.
Recalling the memory of meeting Uncle Ho, Mr. Mua emotionally recounted: On the evening of May 7, 1959, my comrades and I in the platoon received notice that a high-ranking delegation would be visiting the next morning, so we had to prepare to arrive early to provide protection. Everyone was curious, and couldn't sleep all night to prepare their military equipment. The next day, I was assigned to stand about 2 meters away from the steps leading to the stage. Then, at about 8 o'clock, the convoy of high-ranking delegations arrived, at that moment an officer shouted "Long live President Ho" and all the people also shouted "Long live President Ho". Only then did we know that Uncle Ho was visiting.
Mr. Mua recalled: Uncle smiled, then waved to everyone. I was very surprised when Uncle turned around, patted my shoulder, then shook my hand, and said, "Try your best, soldier." I was so moved that I cried but couldn't say a word.
Meeting Uncle Ho was not only an honor and happiness for Mr. Mua but also a common feeling of thousands of ethnic people in Yen Chau at that time. Uncle Ho was simple, close, there was no distance between a leader of the country and the people. He kindly asked about the health of the cadres, soldiers and people of the district's ethnic groups. He said that the Party and the Government highly praised the Yen Chau people in the resistance war for organizing guerrillas to fight the French very well, helping the soldiers and cadres fight the French, liberating Dien Bien. In particular, the people in the highlands lived a difficult life but were very brave in the resistance war. Uncle advised: When peace is restored, the people, cadres and soldiers unite and help each other increase production. All ethnic groups are brothers and sisters in the same family. Cadres, soldiers and people must unite as tightly as holding hands... His kind words of advice and guidance were a great source of encouragement, motivating the Party Committee, government and people of the district's ethnic groups to overcome difficulties and move forward steadily.
Motivation to build homeland
Comrade Tong The Anh, Secretary of Yen Chau District Party Committee, shared: The Party Committee, government and people of the district always keep in mind Uncle Ho's teachings on solidarity to build an increasingly innovative homeland; self-reliance, self-strengthening, overcoming all difficulties, striving to compete, eliminating hunger and reducing poverty; maintaining political security from lowland to highland. The movement of learning and following Uncle Ho has spread in all fields.
Outstanding is the leadership and direction of agricultural and forestry development towards commodity production. Up to now, people in the district have actively converted ineffective crop structure to growing fruit trees and industrial trees with economic value. Many economic models have been developed, forming concentrated high-tech fruit growing areas associated with building safe growing areas and building product brands, such as: grafted mango and tissue culture banana models in communes along National Highway 6; longan and plum in Long Phieng, Phieng Khoai, Tu Nang, Chieng Hac communes; tea and sugarcane in Yen Son, Chieng Sang... with a total area of over 12,150 hectares. Agricultural products ensure conditions for consumption and export. Along with that, the district has actively encouraged people to join in establishing 70 effectively operating cooperatives, promoting their role in gathering people and developing production.
To improve people's lives, the district has paid attention to investing in infrastructure with many projects being implemented, such as: Vat stream embankment project, Chieng Khoi - Phieng Khoai, Muong Lum (Yen Chau) - Tan Lap (Moc Chau) routes; irrigation lakes, commune offices, medical stations, and schools have been solidified... The district has completed the elimination of temporary houses for poor and near-poor households; the average poverty rate has decreased by 4%/year. Up to now, the whole district has 7 communes meeting new rural standards; nearly 1,500 farmers have the title of good production and business at all levels.
Remembering Uncle Ho's teachings, cadres, party members and people of Yen Son commune are united and unanimous in building the economy, rural infrastructure, and the commune will meet new rural standards by the end of 2024. Comrade Vi Lam Toi, Party Secretary of the commune, informed: The commune has chosen new rural construction as a breakthrough in learning and following Uncle Ho. In the past time, the commune has mobilized over 76 billion VND, of which people contributed nearly 10 billion VND, along with thousands of working days, donated land, trees and assets to solidify 29.6 km of roads to the commune, main roads in the village and alleys; built markets, cultural houses, medical stations, schools, etc.; joined hands to complete the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses for poor households. Up to now, the poverty rate of the commune has decreased to 12%.
Imbued with Uncle Ho's teaching "If our farmers are rich, our country will be rich", Yen Chau farmers always strive to rise up, dare to think, dare to do, and enthusiastically compete in labor production. As one of the examples of good production and business at the provincial level for many years, Mr. Nguyen Van Manh in Yen Thi village, Long Phieng commune, said: Taking advantage of the climate and soil, I boldly introduced Mien Thiet longan varieties into cultivation, applying grafting techniques, improving varieties, and producing safely. With 4 hectares of longan, my family harvested 60 tons of fruit/crop, deducting expenses, earning 800 million VND/year. As the Party cell secretary and village head, I mobilized people to expand the longan area to 400 hectares, contributing nearly 700 million VND to build more than 2 km of roads; 3.7 km of internal roads and roads to the production area; erecting 300 electric poles to light up along the road to the village; supporting 135 million VND to build a cultural house. Everyone agrees to contribute, compete in production, get rich, and strive to build the village to meet advanced new rural standards.
Proud to welcome Uncle Ho to visit, the Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups in Yen Chau will forever remember his feelings and teachings, and strive to build their homeland to become more and more prosperous and sustainably developed.
