The Nghinh Ong Song Doc Festival (Tran Van Thoi district, Ca Mau province) is held on February 14-15 (lunar calendar) every year, to honor the whale, also known as "Nam Hai Dai Tuong Quan".
The Song Doc Whale Festival attracts thousands of people from all over to attend, praying for favorable weather, national peace and prosperity.
On this occasion, coastal fishermen pray for favorable weather, national peace and prosperity, and for fishermen to go out to sea for a good catch.
During the festival days, the area around the mausoleum is beautifully decorated with many flags and streamers.
At exactly 11am, the Ong procession started at Ong's mausoleum, then paraded around Song Doc town to the sound of drums and trumpets from the ceremonial band, creating a bustling and jubilant festival atmosphere.

To ensure safety for the Nghinh Ong festival, the Inland Waterways Sub-Department of Region III has announced a ban on inland waterways on the Ong Doc river from Km 6+000 to Km 9+800 (from Song Doc fishing port to the estuary, about 3.8km long) from 11am to 5pm to organize the festival parade.
At the same time, the Safety Inspectorate No. 8, Border Guard, Waterway Police, Fisheries Surveillance Force... coordinated to strictly control vehicles, ensuring safety of waterway traffic through the parade area.

Mr. Tran Tuan Anh, a fishing boat captain who registered to go to Nghinh Ong shared: "This year's Nghinh Ong Festival is very solemn, we fishermen are very excited, praying for favorable weather, good luck at sea, and catching lots of fish and shrimp."
Mr. Tran Quoc Lam, Chairman of the People's Committee of Song Doc town, Tran Van Thoi district said: "This year, the Organizing Committee prepared 6 main ships and 50 fishing boats with the task of transporting the Organizing Committee, dignitaries, students and about 1,500 tourists to the sea."
