A video of singer Tung Duong singing the song My Mother (composed by Tran Tien) in the program Sea of Hope 4 months ago suddenly went viral on social networks Facebook and TikTok. One post attracted more than 60 thousand interactions, thousands of comments and continued to increase strongly.
In the video, Tung Duong performs the immortal song that combines technique and emotion. The verses are presented in a narrative singing style like telling a story. After the passionate and intense high note series F4 - G#4 (Fa - Sol raised by the 4th interval), he suddenly drops it very lightly and delicately.
Throughout the performance, Tung Duong did not try to sing technically, but emphasized and chanted many words to help the performance not be stereotyped but more intimate and easy to listen to.
My mother - Tung Duong
The male singer's performance of "My Mother" successfully won over the audience. In the video, many camera angles show that many viewers who watched live burst into tears. On social networks, many users used the video to express their feelings and longing for their mothers.
Account Thang Pham wrote: "My mother just passed away, listening to Tung Duong sing is like telling a story and expressing immense love for the family, especially the mother". Account Hoi Tran commented: "I have listened to the song countless times but when I hear Tung Duong sing, tears well up". Friend Ha Phan shared: "Listening to Tung Duong sing, I miss my mother so much. His voice is so emotional".
Sharing with VietNamNet, Tung Duong deeply sympathizes with musician Tran Tien. Lines like: Mom, I'm old now, Even though I'm rich and glorious/ Glory is not as good as having a mother ... always move him.
In particular, the way Tran Tien expressed the pain of losing his mother through the line: Climbing the Thien Thai mountain range, oh mother, where have I gone? / For a thousand years, white clouds have flown, oh mother, where have I gone? It is haunting, painful, and full of literary quality.

"I believe we all feel the sacred maternal love, what our mothers have given us throughout our lives and the pain when they are no longer there. His story has touched the hearts of many generations. Therefore, I have almost never lost my emotions even though I have sung My Mother many times in my career. To me, this is one of the best songs about mothers in Vietnam," he said.
Last May, Tung Duong was honored in the International Special Award category of the Japan Music Awards.
He told VietNamNet reporters that musician Tran Tien called him over to his house for a drink and then unexpectedly gave him a beautiful bouquet of flowers and said: "My son is very good. You are honored in another country, making me proud." The two spent hours chatting intimately about music and life.
"The bouquet of flowers and the affectionate words touched me. Recently, because I was too busy, I missed his concert. I always said that it was an honor to sing his music - the talented musician, the hero of the 'Red River Quartet'. He is my musical father", the singer shared.
Tung Duong revealed that musician Tran Tien still has many good songs. He is planning to make a CD of Tung Duong singing Tran Tien as a gift for him.
