Promoting the role of youth in participating in preserving and promoting historical and cultural values, the Standing Committee of U Minh District Youth Union has just launched a team to propagate and introduce historical relics and cultural works in the district.
With a passionate love for the culture and history of the nation in general and the culture and history of U Minh homeland in particular, the district's youth have established a propaganda team at red addresses. The main activities of the team are to introduce the relics in the district and understand the historical events of the locality.
Schools in the district regularly take students to the relic site to visit andlearn about local historical traditions.
Ms. Quach Cam Tu, Secretary of the District Youth Union, shared: “Many young people today rarely participate in local activities, but focus on social networking sites, lacking information about local relics and history. From that, I wondered how to connect you guys together, creating a unified entity. From this thought, the Historical Site Propaganda and Introduction Team was born. The team's operating regulations are to regularly learn about local history, and at the same time connect to introduce historical sites, important milestones of the locality, as well as the formation and development of U Minh land”.
The relic "B52 bomber site in Don Hang Gon" has been included in the province's inventory and regularly organizes propaganda and traditional education activities for the younger generation.
Members of the Propaganda Team regularly learn about the history and working process of Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet (Uncle Sau Dan) in Ca Mau .
According to historical records, on the night of September 10th to the morning of September 11th, 1969 (lunar calendar), when everyone on the Don Canal in Hang Gon was sleeping, the Americans and puppets used B52 aircraft to carpet bomb over a length of more than 3 km, killing 65 innocent people on the spot and injuring hundreds of others. Some families were completely killed by the bombs and some people died without their bodies being found.
To commemorate the day the village was plunged into mourning and pain, the Khanh Lam commune government erected a hate monument at the very place where the enemy dropped bombs to denounce the crimes of the US and the puppet regime. Every year, on the 11th day of the 9th lunar month, the village holds a common death anniversary and the people of Don Canal, Hang Gon, come together to the hate monument to burn incense in memory of the deceased.
Ms. Quach Cam Tu shared: “The first team we established was in Khanh Lam commune, focusing on union members and youth (YVTN) in Hamlet 3 of the commune. The red address Bia Hat Thu Don Hang Gon is a place for the YVTN generation to gather, listen to members of the Veterans Association of the hamlet, living witnesses, recount stories that happened during the war, so that the younger generation can remember the painful loss of the nation”.
The historical relic site of Comrade Vo Van Kiet's residence and workplace was built on the land of Mr. Do Minh Thuan, Hamlet 6, Khanh Hoa commune, completed and inaugurated on February 16, 2023.
Historical sites are red addresses for educating revolutionary traditions for the young generation.
Ms. Danh Thi Mi, Secretary of Khanh Hoa Commune Youth Union, and Head of the Commune Propaganda Team, said: “We are very proud that our hometown has a cultural and historical work that educates the tradition of patriotism. We are young people of the younger generation, and will contribute together with the Party Committee, the government and the people in the commune to continue to preserve and promote the traditional historical values. This relic is a red address that contributes to educating the revolutionary tradition and patriotism for the young generation today and tomorrow. During the activities, the Youth Union members clean up around the construction, weed, plant trees, and preserve the solemnity of the relic site.”
U Minh District has over 3,250 Youth Union members. The District Youth Union Standing Committee organizes the Youth Union branches to have activities in clusters. Ms. Quach Cam Tu informed: “If each branch has its own activities, there will be no vitality, so the District Youth Union Standing Committee directs localities to implement cluster activities, each cluster has about 3 Youth Union branches having activities together. Clusters have activities once a month, with a scenario for each month, thereby creating enthusiasm for the members”./.
