As a young land located in the West of the province, with a 34 km long coastline and a population of over 200 thousand people, the district is honored to be named after Hero of the People's Armed Forces Tran Van Thoi - a staunch communist soldier who made great contributions to the revolution.

Glorious revolutionary tradition

Going back in history to 1950, in the midst of the fierce resistance war against the French colonialists, with its losses and sacrifices, a district administrative unit was established, named after Tran Van Thoi - a staunch revolutionary soldier, as an immortal symbol of the patriotism and indomitable will of this country. During the two resistance wars against the French and the Americans to save the country, Tran Van Thoi district was a solid revolutionary base, a "fortress of the people's hearts" in the midst of immense cajuput forests and crisscrossing rivers. The local armed forces and people here not only fought bravely, but also acted as a rear base to supply and protect cadres and revolutionary bases.

Not afraid of hardships and sacrifices for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, Tran Van Thoi district has nearly 3 thousand outstanding children who have remained forever in the motherland, along with thousands of people who left part of their bodies on the battlefield, carrying injuries from the war; there are 427 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, 20 collectives and individuals who have been awarded and posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces.

With such great contributions, the Party Committee and People of Tran Van Thoi district were honored to be awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forcesby the President in the resistance war against the US to save the country. In 2020, the district continued to be awarded the Second-class Labor Medal by the President, contributing to further glorifying the glorious history of the local Party Committee, army and people, fostering pride, love for the homeland and sense of responsibility of the next generations, to build the heroic homeland more and more prosperous and beautiful.

Considered as a “miniature Ca Mau ”, Tran Van Thoi district has all the potential and strengths in the process of building and developing the homeland. This is the key place of the freshwater area of ​​Ca Mau province, with fields full of alluvium, vast seas rich in shrimp and fish, and vast forests with many natural products. The district has the peaceful Song Doc estuary, offshore Hon Chuoi Island, and near the mainland Hon Da Bac, which has been recognized as a National Historical Relic by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism - this place, in addition to its strategic position in terms of national defense and security, also marks the glorious historical feat of Project CM12.

In particular, at the Ong Doc River wharf, on the southern bank, the Monument Complex commemorating the 1954 Northward Train was erected, standing tall and proud, affirming the great value of a great historical event of the nation right in this land, contributing to educating the tradition, patriotism, and national pride for today's and future generations. The Monument Complex was recognized as a National Historical Relic on May 16, 2024.

Asphalt and concrete roads have reached the center of 100% of communes and towns in the district since nearly 15 years ago. Rice output has increased from 29 thousand tons (in 1976) to over 350 thousand tons, 12 times higher. The average income per capita in 2025 is estimated at 71 million VND, an increase of 19 million VND compared to 2020, exceeding the resolution by 11.65%... In particular, implementing the Government's meaningful and humane Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, with a spirit of high determination and great efforts, as of May 10, Tran Van Thoi district has completed 561/561 houses, exceeding the set schedule, contributing to creating conditions for people to have a warm home and rise up in life.

Aquatic product output has increased from 9,200 tons (in 1989) to over 161,000 tons (in 2024), contributing to promoting the district's economic growth and increasing the province's export turnover.
