According to AS , Santos remains steadfast in its plan to extend Neymar's contract, with the goal of keeping him at least until the 2026 World Cup. Despite struggling to stay in the domestic league, the Brazilian club still sees Neymar as the centerpiece of the team's rebuilding project.
Neymar's return to Santos has been less than expected due to injury, but the relationship between him and the club remains good. The two sides are said to have verbally agreed to sit down for talks after the 2025 season ends.
Santos president Marcelo Teixeira said: “Neymar is absolutely focused on the team. Every match at this time is a final. We are in constant contact with his father. Although we have not discussed an extension, I believe that the possibility of Neymar staying is very high. This project does not last just 6 months, but is aimed at the 2026 World Cup."
According to the plan, the new contract between the two sides is expected to take effect from the beginning of 2026 and last until the World Cup starts. Initially, Neymar considered returning to Europe to regain his peak form. But after consulting with the medical team and coach, he decided to stick with Santos to stabilize his physical and mental condition.
Neymar's ambition is still to improve his form at Santos, thereby competing for a place in the 2026 World Cup in the Brazilian team.
