The Vietnamese women's futsal team is scheduled to have two friendly matches: one with the Japanese women's futsal club on April 23 and one with the Japanese women's futsal team two days later.
The Japanese women's futsal team won the Asian runner-up title twice in 2015 and 2018 and is currently ranked 10th in the world , so this is an ideal training trip for coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang and his team to prepare well for the 2025 Asian Futsal Championship taking place in China next May.
Before going to Japan, the Vietnamese women's futsal team only had one friendly match in Ho Chi Minh City and drew 4-4 with the men's futsal team Xa Store. "The friendly match with the Japanese women's futsal team - one of the top teams in Asia - is an opportunity for the players to prepare mentally and get into the rhythm when the final round has many strong teams so that they can be better prepared," said coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang.
Not only going to Japan for training, the Vietnamese women's futsal team will also go to China early to have a friendly match with the Chinese women's futsal team (scheduled for May 3) before officially competing at the 2025 Asian Women's Futsal Championship.
Here, the Vietnamese girls are in Group B and will meet Hong Kong (May 7), the Philippines (May 9) and Iran (May 11). Of these, Iran is the strongest opponent, currently ranked 9th in the world, two places higher than Vietnam.
The top two teams in each group and the two third-placed teams with the best results in each group will advance to the quarter-finals. Getting past the group stage is not difficult for the Vietnamese women's futsal team.
However, to win a ticket to the 2025 Futsal World Cup as the set goal, coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang and his team must be in the top 3 of the tournament. This task is not easy. But with what they showed in 2024 (defeating the world's 5th ranked team Thailand to win the Southeast Asian championship), the Vietnamese women's futsal team has every right to hope.
Coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang shared: "The team's first goal is to pass the group stage. After that, we will calculate the playing style, thereby going as deep into the tournament as possible and winning a place at the World Cup."
