The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has just confirmed that midfielder Facundo Garces has completed the naturalization process and officially become a member of the Malaya national team. The 26-year-old Argentinean player was born in Santa Fe, grew up in the Colón Club training center and currently plays for Deportivo Alavés in La Liga (Spain).
With a height of 1m88 and good fighting ability, Garces quickly integrated and made 10 appearances in the Spanish top league this season. He is valued at 1.2 million euros on Transfermarkt. This valuation is the highest in the current Malaysian squad, and exceeds the total value of two naturalized players of the Vietnamese national team, Nguyen Filip and Cao Pendant Quang Vinh.
Garces was introduced in the Malaysian national team shirt.
Although Garces’s blood relationship with Malaysia is unclear, the country’s press has confirmed that he is the most promising naturalized player ever in Malaysian football. The Argentine-born centre-back trained with the team during the FIFA training camp that lasted from June 2 to 10, and is eligible to play immediately.

Head coach Peter Clamovski also appreciated this addition: "Facundo is a great player, calm, has leadership qualities and has a lot of experience playing at the top level. Most importantly, he is passionate and eager to contribute to Malaysia".
Garces is expected to make his debut in a closed-door friendly against Cape Verde today, before joining the national team in the crucial match against Vietnam in the second qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup, taking place at Bukit Jalil Stadium on June 10.
Sharing his feelings on his first time wearing the Malaysian shirt, Garces emotionally said: "I felt the warmth and family spirit from the moment I arrived here. Wearing the national team shirt is a great honor, and I am ready to dedicate myself to this country."
