Propaganda to deploy peak period against IUU fishing

At Vung Ro Port Border Gate Station, Vung Ro Port Border Guard Station has just organized a propaganda session to deploy a peak period of prevention and combat of illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

The propaganda session attracted the participation of 70 fishermen who are captains and owners of fishing vessels in the area. Here, Major Le Minh Thao, Political Commissar of the Border Guard Station of Vung Ro Port, disseminated the basic contents of the 2017 Fisheries Law, regulations on preventing IUU fishing; violations, sanctions and responsibilities of fishermen in joining hands with the whole country to remove the yellow card on fisheries that the European Commission (EC) applied to Vietnam.

On this occasion, the unit also distributed leaflets on combating IUU fishing and presented national flags to vehicle owners; at the same time, coordinated with businesses to present 15 gifts (each worth VND 500,000) to poor households in the area under the management of the station. This is a meaningful activity, contributing to encouraging fishermen to confidently go out to sea and actively participate in protecting the sacred sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.
