After a 2-2 draw at My Dinh Stadium in the first leg of the final, the Vietnamese team will have a rematch with the Thai team at Thammasat Stadium in the second leg of the AFF Cup 2022 on the evening of January 16.

With the draw in the first leg, the Vietnamese team entered the second leg of the final with the pressure of having to win or draw with the opponent with a score of 3-3 or more. Coach Park Hang Seo made many adjustments in terms of personnel when Tuan Anh, Van Duc, Van Thanh, Viet Anh and Thanh Binh were on the field from the start.

Right after the opening whistle, the Thai team played an attacking game to put pressure on the Vietnamese team. In the 5th minute, Bui Hoang Viet Anh made a mistake that allowed Adisak to advance and enter the penalty area, but the striker's shot was inaccurate. The Vietnamese team responded 3 minutes later, Hoang Duc had an impressive move to get past both Sasalak and Theerathon Bunmathan, but the number 14 player's shot was inaccurate. Tien Linh also had the first chance for the away team, but his diving kick did not make a difference.

The turning point of the first half came in the 25th minute. After many passes back and forth, Adisak Kraisorn released the ball just in time for Theerathon Bunmathan to shoot beautifully from long range to open the scoring.

This goal greatly affected the mentality of the Vietnamese team. The players in red shirts could no longer keep their composure as they made many wrong passes and committed a few unnecessary fouls. In the remaining minutes of the first half, coach Park Hang-seo even sent Quang Hai onto the field immediately, but there were no surprises for the Vietnamese team in the first 45 minutes.

In the second half, Coach Park Hang-seo made a change when Tuan Hai and Duy Manh came on to replace Van Duc and Viet Anh respectively. The first opportunities came to the Vietnamese team with tireless efforts. Hung Dung and his teammates put the entire squad on the Thai team's field.

However, the home team continued to show superiority in ball control and organization in their play. In the 58th minute, Hoang Duc dribbled from the midfield, approached the penalty area and decided to take a long shot, but the ball unfortunately missed the outside post.

Coach Park Hang-seo continued to play "all-in" when sending a series of attacking players onto the field. Thanh Chung was brought in to play as a striker and Van Toan was on the right wing. This adjustment helped the Vietnamese team improve the situation, with a few notable situations but Tien Linh and Hung Dung could not take advantage of them. Despite their best efforts, the Golden Star Warriors could not score against the solid play of the Thai team.

In the final minutes of the match, the Vietnamese team could not create a surprise and accepted a 0-1 loss, thereby losing with a total score of 3-2 and accepting the runner-up position of the AFF Cup 2022. Thailand successfully defended the AFF Cup 2022 championship./.
