Cai Lay Town: Striving to do a good job in social security

Identifying social security as the foundation for sustainable development, in recent years, Cai Lay Town, Tien Giang Province has had many practical activities for the poor, people with revolutionary contributions, the elderly, people with disabilities, children in difficult circumstances, and efforts to sustainably reduce poverty...

As an advisory body, assisting the People's Committee of Cai Lay Town in performing the State management function in social fields such as: Social protection, meritorious people, child protection and care, employment, labor export, vocational training... The Town's Department of Home Affairs has affirmed its core role in the work of poverty reduction, doing well in social security work, gradually improving the quality of life of the people in the area.

Leaders of Cai Lay town presented gifts to policy families, the elderly, and poor households in the town.

Accordingly, the Town's Department of Internal Affairs has actively coordinated with relevant units to synchronously implement solutions to effectively reduce poverty such as: Prioritizing the implementation of policies, supporting the poor in health,education , credit loans, vocational training, job creation, new construction, house repair... helping the disadvantaged to stabilize their lives.

Up to now, hundreds of poor people in Cai Lay town have been supported with preferential loans, vocational training, and job creation; thereby gradually escaping poverty sustainably, reducing the rate of poor households over the years. By the end of 2024, the town's poverty rate has decreased to 0.52%, with 191 poor households and 659 near-poor households.

Along with poverty reduction, the work of caring for policy beneficiaries, meritorious people; vocational training, social protection... is fully implemented by Cai Lay Town, contributing to stabilizing people's lives. According to the Cai Lay Town Department of Internal Affairs, the whole town currently has 6,155 social protection beneficiaries receiving monthly allowances, with an amount of 51,342 billion VND/year.

Up to now, Cai Lay Town has 6,945 meritorious people, of which 1,927 are receiving monthly allowances. The monthly allowance regime for people with meritorious services to the revolution has been fully, promptly and in accordance with regulations, with the total monthly allowance for people with meritorious services from 2020 to November 2024 being approximately more than 238.6 billion VND.

Identifying social security work as one of the important tasks, in recent years, local Party committees and authorities at all levels of Cai Lay town have effectively implemented policies for poor households and social protection beneficiaries and organized many practical activities to assist and support disadvantaged people to improve their lives.

Head of the Department of Home Affairs of Cai Lay Town Pham Thanh Mong said that taking care of social security is a task that the locality is interested in implementing. In addition to fully implementing policies for poor households and social protection beneficiaries, the locality also promotes social mobilization to support housing, giving many gifts to poor and near-poor households, and people in difficult circumstances. Since the beginning of the term (2020) up to now, Cai Lay Town has supported 285 gratitude houses (of which, 85 were newly built, 200 were repaired) for meritorious people and relatives of meritorious people with housing difficulties, with a total cost of 13.1 billion VND, of which the budget is 9.4 billion VND, the rest is the source of funding mobilized from companies, businesses and philanthropists.

In addition to the support from the state budget, the Party Committee, the government, the sectors and organizations of Cai Lay Town have mobilized many resources in society to take care of difficult circumstances, contributing to arousing the spirit of mutual love and affection, creating motivation for the less fortunate to strive to build a better life.

The above results show that the work of ensuring social security has created consensus and high determination of all levels, sectors, organizations and people in Cai Lay town. This is a premise to contribute to ensuring social stability, gradually improving people's lives, creating momentum for the comprehensive and sustainable development of the town.

To continue to effectively implement social security policies, in the coming time, all levels and sectors of Cai Lay town will continue to strengthen coordination, focus on developing the social security system, and link social security policies with local socio -economic development programs and plans. Continue to promote the effectiveness of ensuring social security for people with revolutionary contributions, providing social protection subsidies for vulnerable groups... on the principle of ensuring the implementation of policies and regimes correctly, sufficiently, promptly and effectively.
