Exchange rate developments in the domestic market

In the domestic market, according to the World and Vietnam Newspaper at 8:00 a.m. on May 7, the State Bank announced the central exchange rate of the Vietnamese Dong decreased by 6 VND, currently at 24,938 VND.

The reference USD exchange rate at the State Bank of Vietnam is listed at: 23,742 VND - 26,134 VND.

USD exchange rates at commercial banks are as follows:

Vietcombank : 25,760 - 26,150 VND.

Vietinbank: 25,630 - 26,140 VND.

World market developments

The US Dollar Index (DXY) measuring the greenback's movements against six major currencies (EUR, JPY, GBP, CAD, SEK, CHF) decreased by 0.44% to 99.40.

The US dollar continues to fall due to concerns about trade deals.

Investors are awaiting details on trade deals that the Trump administration said it is negotiating with other countries, including China.

Mr Trump said some deals would be announced this week.

“The market is nervous about trade deals, since the 90-day tariff delay without any announcement,” said Eugene Epstein, head of North American structuring at Moneycorp.

The US dollar fell 0.86% against the Japanese yen to 142.445.

Meanwhile, the euro extended gains after the German parliament elected conservative leader Friedrich Merz as chancellor. The euro rose 0.50% to $1.1371.

The market is focusing on the US Federal Reserve's (Fed) policy meeting today (May 7) in which the Fed is expected to keep interest rates unchanged.
