The Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the USD against six major currencies (EUR, JPY, GBP, CAD, SEK, CHF), stopped at 100.98 - down 0.16 points compared to May 17, 2025.

The US dollar has rebounded in international markets, but forecasts remain neutral, despite the US Federal Reserve Chairman predicting that high interest rates could last longer as uncertainties and inflation increase.

Experts predict that if the trade negotiations on tariffs between the US and its partners do not have good results, the USD will be sold off again like it was recently when Mr. Trump announced tariffs on 180 partners worldwide since the beginning of April.

Recent comments from Fed officials suggest the central bank needs more data to determine the impact of tariff announcements on prices and the economy before adjusting policy.

The US dollar rose 0.16% to 145.89 against the Japanese yen. Japan's economy contracted for the first time in a year in the third quarter, and at a faster pace than expected, data released on May 16 showed.

The US dollar gained 0.4% last week against the Japanese yen.

Japanese Finance Minister Katsunobu Kato said he would seek to discuss foreign exchange issues with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and hoped to meet Mr. Bessent next week.

The pound fell 0.2% to $1.327 and was down 0.1% for the week.
