The State Bank announced the central exchange rate between the Vietnamese Dong and the USD today (August 18) as 25,245 VND/USD, down 4 VND compared to the trading session at the end of last week.
Applying a 5% margin, commercial banks are allowed to trade today at a ceiling rate of VND26,507/USD and a floor rate of VND23,983/USD.
The reference USD exchange rate at the State Bank of Vietnam was also adjusted down by 4 VND in both buying and selling directions, to 24,033-26,457 VND/USD (buying - selling).
At commercial banks, the USD price today recorded a strong increase, reaching a new record high.
At the selling price, the USD price at many banks reached 26,470 VND/USD, the highest level ever.
Specifically, compared to the trading session last weekend, the USD price this afternoon (August 18) at Vietcombank increased by 30 VND in both buying and selling directions, raising the USD cash buying price to 26,080 VND/USD, and the selling price to 26,470 VND/USD.
USD price at VietinBank increased to 26,107-26,467 VND/USD (buy - sell), up 20 VND in both buying and selling.

Similarly, the greenback price at BIDV also increased by 30 VND in both directions, to 26,110-26,470 VND/USD (buy - sell).
Not only state-owned banks, private commercial banks also simultaneously raised the USD price to a record high.
Techcombank increased 22 VND in buying and 21 VND in selling, the USD buying price in cash is 26,092 VND/USD, the selling price is 26,486 VND/USD.
Sacombank also increased the USD price to 26,101-26,461 VND/USD (buy - sell), 21 VND more expensive in both buying and selling.
Meanwhile, the USD price on the free market fluctuated little. Today, the free USD was bought and sold at transaction points in the price range of 26,480-26,550 VND/USD, unchanged from the previous session.
In the world market, the USD price was adjusted up slightly.
The US Dollar Index (a measure of the greenback's strength against other major currencies) at 3:46 p.m. on August 18 (Vietnam time) was at 97.95 points, up 0.1% from the previous session.
The US dollar was little changed as investors watched the meeting between US President Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky, while waiting for information from the Jackson Hole Symposium for more clues on the direction of the US Federal Reserve's monetary policy.
