On the evening of April 4, U.17 Vietnam faced U.17 Australia in the opening match of Group B - the final round of the 2025 AFC U-17 Championship taking place in Saudi Arabia. Facing a highly rated opponent, the young Vietnamese players entered the match very confidently. In the early stages of the match, coach Cristiano Roland's team created an even match with the team from the land of kangaroos.

U.17 Vietnam played resiliently despite conceding the first goal.
From the 20th minute of the match, U.17 Australia began to show dominance. In the 26th minute, U.17 Australia was awarded a penalty after a collision with Dau Hong Phong in the penalty area. At the 11m mark, Quinn MacNicol fired a shot that hit the crossbar and bounced to the ground before bouncing out.
After many attempts to attack, it was not until the 41st minute that the Australian U.17 team broke the deadlock. The Vietnamese U.17 players failed to compete in the middle of the field, Quinn MacNicol dribbled straight into the middle and then fired a powerful shot with his right foot, leaving goalkeeper Hoa Xuan Tin standing there watching. At the end of the first half, the kangaroo team temporarily held the advantage when leading 1-0 against the Vietnamese U.17.

In the first minute of the second half, the goal of the U.17 Vietnam team was threatened. In the 46th minute, the ball hit the crossbar again, after Anastasio's shot. The following events saw the U.17 Vietnam team push up their formation to attack in search of an equalizer.
In the 49th minute, U.17 Vietnam brought the match back to the starting line. After a header pass from Nguyen Van Bach, Hoang Trong Duy Khang fired a shot into the opponent's net, tying the score 1-1 for the yellow star team.

The remaining time was a duel between U.17 Vietnam and U.17 Australia. Even in the final minutes of the match, Coach Roland's students created clear dangerous opportunities in front of the opponent's goal but could not score. In the end, U.17 Vietnam drew 1-1 with U.17 Australia in the opening match of the 2025 U.17 Asian Cup.
In the second match taking place at 10pm on April 7, U.17 Vietnam will face U.17 Japan.
