After the Myanmar women's team impressively came from behind to defeat the Thai women's team in the semi-finals of the 32nd SEA Games women's football event on May 12, the Myanmar U22 men's team used that result as motivation to face the Thai U22 team on the evening of May 13.
However, with their fearless playing style, Myanmar U22 team could only hold their opponents from the land of the golden pagodas for about the first 30 minutes of the match. The huge difference in skill, class and squad quality helped Thailand U22 easily control the game, launch quick attacks and score the opening goal in the 37th minute thanks to striker Teerasak Poeiphimai.
Reaching the semi-finals is a good achievement for U22 Myanmar this season.
With the advantage of leading the score, Coach Sritaro's team confidently passed the ball around the middle, wearing down the opponent's strength with counter-attacks on both wings. Having to constantly chase the ball, the Myanmar players quickly lost their stamina, gradually revealing their defensive weaknesses and being penetrated by the opponent twice more near the end of the match.
With a comfortable victory in the semi-finals, the current SEA Games runner-up secured a ticket to the gold medal match against Indonesia on May 16. The archipelago nation had excellently defeated U22 Vietnam with a score of 3-2 in the semi-final match that took place earlier that day.
