Unexpected victory in Chengdu
Entering the opening match under no small pressure from the home team, U22 Vietnam won 1-0 thanks to the only but valuable goal of Minh Phuc in the 80th minute.
This result was considered surprising, because the situation on the field was not easy for U22 Vietnam. The decisive goal did not come from a sharp attack combination, but directly from a mistake by the U22 China defender.

Throughout most of the match, U22 Vietnam did not really dominate the game. Coach Kim Sang Sik's players had a lot of difficulty in organizing attacks and approaching the opponent's goal.
The goal was lucky, U22 Vietnam also needs to thank Cao Van Binh for his excellence because this goalkeeper at least saved 2 obvious goals in the first half.
The first three points not only helped interim coach Dinh Hong Vinh's team have a smooth start but also relieved psychological pressure after a long trip and cold weather conditions in Chengdu.
Lessons are worth more than 3 points
Despite the victory, U22 Vietnam still has a lot to improve. The biggest bright spot is probably the fighting spirit of the students of interim coach Dinh Hong Vinh or some impressive names such as Cao Van Binh, Van Truong, Ly Duc...
The rest of the squad has not shown the best rhythm. This is quite understandable because U22 Vietnam has just moved to Chengdu and had to compete in cold weather, not fully adapted to the climate and time zone.

The biggest problem has been revealed in the defense. Although U22 China is not a very strong opponent or has a diverse attack, the defense system of U22 Vietnam still does not bring the highest certainty.
The central defenders often had unsafe clearances and made personal mistakes. Most of the home team's dangerous chances came from these mistakes. In addition, the cover between the central defenders and full-backs was not really tight. Luckily, U22 China could not take advantage of it.
In the midfield, the players played better in their ability to defend from a distance. But in the attack front, the ability to launch is still slow and lacks "lethal" passes to penetrate the opponent's defense, especially when U22 China retreats very quickly to the home field. The overall speed of U22 Vietnam's ball attack is relatively slow and lacks suddenness.
But the things that were revealed when meeting U22 China were... very good for coach Kim Sang Sik and the interim Dinh Hong Vinh. Because the Korean coach and his team already knew and could make adjustments for U22 Vietnam before entering the SEA Games, and even further, the U23 Asian Cup Finals.
