In its latest humanitarian situation report in Ethiopia, UNICEF said the $674.3 million Humanitarian Action Appeal for Children (HAC) 2023 for Ethiopia remains underfunded.
To date, only $187.7 million has been provided, including $50.9 million transferred from 2022, covering just 28% of the essential needs of children and families.
Amid growing humanitarian needs in Ethiopia, the organization said that as of September 30, a total of 24,929 cases of the disease had been reported in Ethiopia's longest cholera outbreak, with 327 deaths in 10 regions of the country.
UNICEF stressed that the flow of Ethiopian refugees returning from Sudan has further exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in the country's Amhara and Benishangul Gumuz regions.
As of September 30, after riots broke out in Sudan, more than 83,000 people had returned to Ethiopia from that country.
