At the meeting, Mr. Ha Hong Duy - Deputy Head of the Ethnic Minorities Committee of Kon Tum province, Head of the Delegation, briefly reported on the socio -economic situation, ethnic affairs and implementation of policies for prestigious people in Kon Tum province.
Accordingly, Kon Tum is a mountainous, border province, located in the North of the Central Highlands. The total natural area is 9,689.61 km2. The whole province has 10 administrative units at district and city levels with 102 communes, wards and towns; 92/102 communes are in ethnic minority and mountainous areas (accounting for 90.2%); 13 border communes bordering the Lao People's Democratic Republic and the Kingdom of Cambodia; 3 poor districts (Kon Plong, Tu Mo Rong, Ia H'Drai).
Kon Tum is a province with a high proportion of ethnic minorities, with a total population of about 597,033 people, of which ethnic minorities account for 324,172 people, accounting for 54.3% with 43 ethnic groups living together. There are 7 ethnic groups in the area, including: Xo Dang, Ba Na, Gia Rai, Gie Trieng, Hre, Brau and Ro Mam.
In 2024, the province will have 620 Prestigious People (of which 573 are male, accounting for 92.42%, 47 are female, accounting for 7.58%). Prestigious people among ethnic minorities come from many different social sectors, most of them are village elders, village chiefs, some Prestigious People are both village elders, village chiefs, Party cell secretaries, village chiefs...
Therefore, promoting the role of a Prestigious Person is mainly based on experience, exemplary in words and actions, understanding of customs and practices, having a strong influence on the surrounding community, and being respected by the people in the village to be elected.
Implementing Decision 12/2018/QD-TTg, Decision 28/2023/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister in the first 6 months of 2024; The Ethnic Committee has advised the Provincial People's Committee to issue documents guiding the implementation of the policy. As a result, up to now, the People's Committees of districts and cities have organized visits, encouragement and gifts for more than 672 prestigious people among ethnic minorities in the province on the occasion of the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin 2024; visited and encouraged 8 prestigious people who were sick; visited and encouraged 3 prestigious people and relatives of prestigious people who passed away.
According to the 2024 plan, the Ethnic Committee will organize 2 delegations to learn from experiences outside the province and organize 7 training courses to improve knowledge for prestigious people.
In the open and friendly atmosphere of the meeting, the delegates of the Prestigious People of Kon Tum province expressed their joy at visiting the capital and being welcomed by the leaders of the Committee for Ethnic Minorities. The delegates expressed their gratitude to the leaders of the Party and State, especially the Committee for Ethnic Minorities, for their attention to the ethnic minority and mountainous areas, with the right ethnic policies, suitable for each locality.
In addition, the Prestigious People delegates also hope that the Party, the State, and the Committee for Ethnic Minorities will continue to pay attention to investing in implementing policies for ethnic minorities. Especially improving qualifications and encouraging job creation for ethnic minority workers and their children after graduation; paying attention to buying health insurance cards for Prestigious People...
The delegates of the Prestigious People of Kon Tum province also emphasized that, with the attention to implementing well the policies for Prestigious People, Prestigious People will strive to fulfill their role well in all areas of social life in the ethnic minority areas, always striving with the local people to develop the economy, preserve and promote cultural values, eliminate backward customs... to build a better life.
Speaking at the meeting, Director of the Department of Ethnic Minorities, Luu Xuan Thuy, acknowledged and commended the good deeds of the prestigious people among ethnic minorities in Kon Tum province. The Director of the Department of Ethnic Minorities, acknowledged the recommendations and proposals of the delegates, and at the same time hoped that the prestigious people of Kon Tum province would continue to promote their role as the "core" force in propagating and mobilizing ethnic minorities to comply with the Party's guidelines and policies and the State's laws; make efforts to eliminate inappropriate customs; preserve and promote the values of national cultural identity...
Along with that, Director of the Department of Ethnic Minorities, Luu Xuan Thuy, hopes that the local Party committees and authorities of Kon Tum province will pay attention to fully implementing policies for prestigious people such as promptly informing prestigious people; paying attention to encouraging and visiting prestigious people who are sick or ill...
Mr. Luu Xuan Thuy hopes that the prestigious person, with his experience, will coordinate with the local government to promote the spirit of great solidarity, effectively implement the National Target Program on socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas; mobilize people to care for and create conditions for their children to go to school; eliminate bad habits and vices as well as arguments and plots to divide the Great National Unity bloc; unite to build Kon Tum province to become more and more prosperous.
At the meeting, Head of the Department of Ethnic Minorities Luu Xuan Thuy presented gifts from the Committee for Ethnic Minorities to delegates of prestigious ethnic minority groups in Kon Tum province.
