The Doan Ngo Festival (held on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month) is one of the most important traditional holidays of the Vietnamese people. With the meaning of warding off diseases and insects and praying for a bountiful harvest, many families often offer sticky rice wine, banh gio and summer fruits. Among them, lychee and plum are the two fruits that are more popular with consumers.
In addition to the usual hybrid lychee lines priced at around 50,000 VND/kg, egg-shaped lychee is also chosen by many customers during the Doan Ngo Festival. Hung Yen egg-shaped lychee is just entering the season, so the quantity is not much. The selling price of this type of lychee ranges from 120,000 - 150,000 VND/kg, depending on the type.

Phu Cu litchi (Hung Yen) is famous for its sweet and refreshing taste. Hung Yen litchi is not as sweet and sharp as lychee, not as sour as lychee, and not as astringent as hemp.
Meanwhile, in Ho Chi Minh City, Ms. Hoai Bui said she had to pre-order Hung Yen lychee for 240,000 VND/kg. Notably, Ms. Hoai had to pre-order several days in advance to have the goods for the Doan Ngo Festival. Hung Yen lychee is more expensive in Ho Chi Minh City because it is transported by plane, keeping its dryness and natural flavor.
Along with lychee, Pu Nhi plum, a specialty of the Son La highlands, also attracts customers during the Doan Ngo Festival. Pu Nhi plum is dark red, sweet, crunchy and less sour. Pu Nhi plum is considered superior to regular plum. However, due to limited quantity, Pu Nhi plum is quite expensive, ranging from 80,000 - 150,000 VND/kg.
Pu Nhi plums are grown on Pu Nhi hill (Song Ma district, Son La province). The high mountain terrain, good soil and the hot and humid climate of the Northwest region have produced deep red, sweet, seedless plums that are very sweet when ripe...

Pu Nhi plums are in the early season and coincide with peak consumption, plus transportation costs have caused prices to increase significantly.
Ms. Lan Anh (in Cau Giay, Hanoi ) said she ordered Pu Nhi plums at 120,000 VND/kg to burn incense on the occasion of the Doan Ngo Festival. Pu Nhi plums are not abundant, so Ms. Lan Anh had to ask an acquaintance to order about 4 days in advance to get the goods.
