Van Chan develops tourism associated with preserving cultural values

Over the years, Van Chan district has always paid attention to preserving and promoting cultural values, effectively exploiting the potential of natural landscapes and traditional ethnic culture to develop tourism. From that advantage, it has contributed to making Van Chan a destination chosen by many tourists.

Suoi Giang is known as an attractive tourist destination of Van Chan district with an Eco-tourism area at an altitude of over 1,300 m, cool climate all year round, famous ancient Shan Tuyet tea area and attractive attractions such as: Coc Tinh, Thien Cung cave, Suoi Giang tea cultural space... Coming to Suoi Giang, visitors will be amazed by the hundred-year-old tea forest, enduring the sun and wind of the highlands, the pride of the Mong people here.
Tourists not only enjoy products made from ancient Shan Tuyet tea buds such as: Diep Tra, Hong Tra, Bach Tra, Hoang Tra but also experience the production process and cultural and artistic exchanges with the Mong people. Through research on tea production and promotion, Suoi Giang Shan Tuyet tea products have increased in value and are present in domestic and foreign markets. In addition, the Mong people's awareness in protecting tea areas and producing quality tea products is increasingly enhanced. The Mong people have changed their thinking about economic development associated with tourism development. Many households have known how to preserve traditional cultural values, renovate their houses and organize agricultural production activities associated with tourism development.
On the occasion of the recent April 30 - May 1 holiday, Van Chan district organized the Shan Tuyet Tea Festival 2025 with the theme "Quintessence among the clouds" which was held with the strong cultural identity of the Mong people with the sound of the panpipe, the flute, the beauty of indigenous culture through activities such as: pounding rice cakes, throwing pao, tug of war, pushing sticks, walking on stilts, performing traditional Shan Tuyet tea, performing traditional tea making art, tea tasting, performing traditional Mong ethnic costumes. The festival also promoted local OCOP products at booths and tourism experiences, sports activities; "Golden Hands Tea Picking" Contest... The Shan Tuyet Tea Festival is held annually to introduce and promote to domestic and international friends the value of products and the famous local Shan Tuyet Suoi Giang tea brand.
Ms. Nguyen Thuy Duong - a tourist from Thai Nguyen shared: "This is the first time my friends and I have come to Van Chan to play during the April 30 - May 1 holiday, participating in the Suoi Giang Shan Tuyet Tea Festival, experiencing the cultural and culinary beauty of the Mong and Thai people in the Northwest, which I have only seen on TV before. These new experiences help me understand more about the customs, habits, and daily life of the people here. If I have the chance, I will come back with my family to have fun and relax."
In addition, Van Chan has long been famous for many natural hot spring tourist attractions concentrated in Son Thinh town with the Community Tourism Area. Homestays in Suoi Khoang Residential Group, Son Thinh town are ideal destinations for tourists who want to experience hot mineral baths, learn about the cultural beauty and unique cuisine of the Thai people in the Northwest.
Mr. Sa Van Huong - Owner of Homestay Huong Kim shared: "Many tourists often call to book a room a month in advance, especially around the holidays of April 30 - May 1, National Day September 2, when there are many festivals... Guests coming here are often from other provinces such as: Hanoi, Hai Duong, Bac Ninh..., mainly to bathe in hot mineral water and eat, rest. My family is always proactive in preparing all the essential conditions of food, swimming pool hygiene, and rooms to be ready to serve tourists".
Van Chan has a large area with many ethnic groups living together such as Mong, Tay, Thai, Muong, Dao, Kho Mu... each ethnic group has its own unique cultural features, creating a diverse cultural picture. Currently, with the development of transportation and communication, access to remote areas has become easier, leading to an increasing number of tourists. This is an opportunity for local people to improve their lives but at the same time a challenge in protecting and preserving unique cultural values. Many cultural and artistic club models have been established and operate regularly, connecting the elderly with the younger generation through activities, performances, and teaching folk tunes and dances.
Ms. Hoang Thi Thanh Tam - Head of the Department of Culture, Science and Information of Van Chan district said: "In recent years, the district has focused on developing key tourism products such as: eco-tourism, resorts in harmony with nature; experiential and discovery tourism; cultural activities, artistic exchanges of Mong, Thai, Tay ethnic groups and traditional festivals such as: Festival to honor ancient Shan Tuyet tea trees (Suoi Giang commune), Com Festival (Tu Le commune), Cau Dinh Festival (An Luong commune) ... contributing to promoting the image of tourism, aiming to build Van Chan district into an attractive destination".
Along with directing localities to enhance tourism services, the district actively applies information technology and digital transformation to promote tourism in the communes of Suoi Giang, Tu Le and Son Thinh town; develops and improves the quality in a professional direction of adventure tourism products such as cave exploration in Tu Le commune; Tu Le training and experience center (Aeris Hill); Thien Cung cave...; develops local specialties that meet OCOP standards to serve tourists such as: Suoi Giang Shan Tuyet tea, Tu Le green rice, Mong people's sticky rice cake... Especially during the April 30 - May 1 holiday, Van Chan district welcomed 24,375 tourists. Of which, 21,346 were domestic tourists; 3,029 were international tourists. Total revenue from tourism reached nearly 22 billion VND.
Promoting the achieved results and orienting specific, realistic goals in the coming time, Van Chan district continues to promote the potential of natural strengths along with preserving the unique traditional cultural values ​​of the locality so that ecotourism becomes a key economic sector attracting tourists to experience and explore.
